Electronic Hand Brake

I’ve noticed that on our SC, since the MOT was done, when pulling the handbrake lever the handbrake for the car will allow it to creep. If you pull the lever again the car will hold properly.

It’s almost as if it’s still in MOT mode or whatever they do to it.

Is there a way to sort this or should I look at carrying out the bedding in process?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Mine was doing that, I think it's because it only goes on when the fatty is stationary and so doesn't self clean. I just used it half a dozen times from creep speed, just pull and hold it, first couple of times it sounded like rusty brakes, then it cleared and now works fine... Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks Pete, I'll give that a go.

When I put it on for the first time the car rolls as if it's not on, pull it a second time and it grabs and stops the car immediately. It doesn't make any sound like there's anything on the shoes either.

Fingers crossed it works though!

Have you tried adjusting the parking brake/emergency brake shoes manually Dave? They may be to far away from the drums.

I've not done anything yet.

It worked perfectly prior to the MOT, then with whatever mode they put it into at MOT to do the brake test, it's not worked properly since so I wouldn't have thought it would be mechanical. I might be wrong though.

No special settings for an MOT... mine did just the same, I think the shoes pull to a preset torque which is not enough when dirt is present, clean them off by using it while in motion and it wipes the shoes... mine now works spot on first try...

You may have a totally different issue and I maybe talking out my Censored but it worked for me... Thumbs Up Pete

MOT brake test is normally just the MOT tester driving the car with a device in the passenger's Thumbs Up footwell...

Remember the Park brake is also an Emergency brake button too so, if you pull it up when your rolling it will do an all out emergency STOP! And spread you all over the windscreen! Shocked

To test park brake at MOT with a decelerometer the park brake is put into test mode by being stationery in neutral, hold foot brake & then four applications for on & then three applications for off with the EPB switch all with in twenty secs I think. It will then come up on dash park brake in test mode. It will then only apply park brake whilst being driven to effectively test park brake or to test on a slope. If ignition is cycled it will drop out or if you drive above 30 mph approx. They can be temperamental to get test mode established, but never known not to come out. May be worth checking park shoes / adjustment, they may have had several goes at getting the efficiency req for a pass. The info for establishing test mode is available to the MOT tester from specific info for the vehicle being tested. Apologies if I have got the sequence slightly wrong going from memory!
As Craig says if you apply the park brake out of test mode it will apply all brakes very fiercely.
Hope this helps.
