I am currently looking to buy an early L405 to replace the D4 I sold last week. A lot of land rovers have gone missing around our area recently including one belonging to a close friend of mine. When my D4 was parked for more than a few hours the keys were in a faraday pouch and the starter motor relay was removed in an effort to slow the scumbags down

When I get a L405 I intend to get some decent security on it, what do you current owners recommend as a worthwhile immobiliser (i.e one that can protect the car even if the key is cloned/stolen)

I have a MetaTrak fitted to mine, and other cars. I had one fitted to my last RR too. Never had a problem when the car went in to the dealers or with warranties.

It uses a fob, which can set up to be pressed once before starting. Without the fob being pressed, the RR is going nowhere.

I used the company below (ask for Gary) because they are a specialist with years of experience working on expensive motors. They know how to hide the immobiliser too. I had mine fitted on my drive.

MetaTrack are fantastic at monitoring too. On several occasions they have contacted me (such as on the Eurotunnel) when the LR tracking system didn’t pick up anything.

The MetaTrack App is useful, and if stolen (with the fob) they will track your vehicle, inform the police, and if the vehicle stops, will activate the immobiliser to prevent it being driven any further.
