4.4 TDV8 Oil Consumption

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but what is a 'normal' oil consumption for the TDV8? Mine has dropped two divisions (however much that is) on the display scale over approx 1,000m of mixed driving. Reasonable or excessive? Thanks 2011MY 4.4TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue

Mine drops a couple in about six months, approx 2500 miles. Though I do a lot of 6 mile trips to work and perhaps cancelled DPF regens fill it up a bit with diesel ? Not sure

Mine uses no oil whatsoever between 6k oil changes. Typical use is around town 3 mile trips to and from office Monday to Friday - An occasional 100 to 20 mile trip every other weekend or so and every 3 months a round trip of 3k miles to the UK from Eastern Europe, which includes high speed runs through Germany on the way to and from the UK. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Current

Have you checked for leaks? It’s not unheard of but unusual for them to burn oil. Check around the oil cooler in the V of the engine, also less likely the oil pump has been known to leak from a large plug located on the top of the pump itself, The pump bolts on the front of the engine and is driven directly if the crank.
If all dry and you keep using oil, taking it the oil has been changed recently you may need further investigation to ensure you don’t have a turbo seal beginning to fail.
Good luck Thumbs Up

Thanks to all for the advice. I think I have to be more methodical with my checks, as the level is up a notch today. I’ll ensure exact same level position and timing after engine off for future checks.
No evidence of leaks around the oil cooler, bell housing or chassis members, no oil in coolant that I can see, and no smoke on acceleration. 2011MY 4.4TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue
