Blackdown 4X4 Feedback?

I’ve just placed a deposit on an L405 for sale at Blackdown 4x4 in Kentisbeare, Devon.

Does anyone have any feedback on this dealer, good or not so good?

Thanks Thumbs Up

Sorry, never heard of them. What sort of warranty do they offer, and how do they enforce it? E.g the Vogue Centre in Oldham gives everyone a 12 month warranty wise warranty plus 12 months AA cover. So do they do warranty themselves, or do they outsource it?

Did you take the silver 2013 AB? Looked at the spec and it looked incredible for the money.

Yes, it’s the silver AB. Although it’s slightly older than I ideally wanted, the mileage / spec. caught my eye. I’ve had one with exec. rear seats before and no issues for me space-wise, I was especially looking for the 1,700w reference sound system too.

Having only ever had black RR’s previously (and one Causeway) silver is a departure for me, but I like it with the contrast black roof and probably easier to live with in terms of keeping it clean.

They provide their own 6 months / 6,000 miles ‘major items’ return to base warranty. Not ideal, but better than nothing / compared to buying privately.

Collecting tomorrow, hopefully condition is as described and no issues - deposit is refundable so at worst a wasted morning.

Some historical background....
Used them for servicing my 4.2sc for a few years. Fair pricing (bargain compared to MD) and kept the car in good health. That 4.2 was the most reliable FF I've had - literally nothing went wrong in 5 years - so you could argue they maintained it very well...or that they had nothing to do because the car was so good. Dad runs the sales, Son runs the workshop with LR trained mechanic. Really more sales oriented outfit than service. Back then it was all Discos and Freelanders very few RR - but some Sports, no FFs. Mike - MPx

Thanks Mike, appreciate the feedback - dealt with the son so far but his dad is meeting me for collection later this morning.

All their stock is LR, so that perhaps bodes well in so much they’re not a general used car trader that happens to have an RR for sale.

Fingers crossed all goes well!

Theyre just meeting their legal obligations, the 6000 miles is null and void as is their major items clause.

Consumer Rights Act 2015 states:-

Faults, repairs and refunds
Under the new act, if a fault renders the product not of satisfactory quality, not fit for purpose or not as described, then the buyer is entitled to reject it within the first 30 days.

Between 30 days and 6 months
If a fault comes to light after 30 days but before 6 months you’re entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.

It’s assumed in law that the fault was present at the time of purchase unless the seller can prove otherwise.
Unless you’ve agreed otherwise, the seller (dealer) has only one opportunity to repair (or replace) the faulty vehicle after which, if they fail to repair it, you’re entitled to a refund.
In the event of a refund following a failed attempt at repair during the first six months the seller may make a 'reasonable' adjustment to the amount refunded to take account of the use that you’ve had of the vehicle.

After 6 months
The burden is on you to prove that the product was faulty at the time of delivery if you want to pursue a claim for repair or replacement. BMW i3 Electric Car

That’s very useful info.

Conscious not to come across as the ‘I know my rights’ type so I’ll pose it as a genuine question & gauge the reaction.

If you can put any part of the purchase on a credit card, no matter how little, then should the dealer not meet their obligations, your card provider has an obligation to pursue this on your behalf. That’s why I paid the deposit for mine on card, and bank transfer for the balance.

Hopefully all unnecessary, but such safety nets are like a trebuchet: it is better to have a trebuchet and not need it, than to need a trebuchet and not have it.

I think the minimum is £100 to qualify for credit card protection, i may be wrong, it certainly used to be that. Good advice. BMW i3 Electric Car

Not an issue and not necessary to discuss really until something goes wrong (hopefully it wont), then you can fire your bullets. Keep your powder dry ! BMW i3 Electric Car

To update, viewed & test drove, unfortunately it was smoking heavily from the near side exhaust, so have passed on this car.

Search continues!

That’s a real shame to hear that, looked like a really nicely specced motor.

I think you had a lucky escape here.

I’d not been to this dealer for well over a year and was met with this from the salesman “Have you been here before, are you serious this time?” Had a short test drive in an L322 on the Wednesday but wasn’t sure as there was blue smoke coming from both exhausts so returned on the following Saturday to test drive to check this again. Salesman again:- “You can’t keep coming here test driving cars”. No problems - I’ll take my £20,000 elsewhere.

If dealers like this want you to have a solitary 10 minute ride around the block in a smoking used car and then just hand over your hard earned £20K then somethings wrong.
