Sim Card woes

This SIM card thing is driving me mad! I asked the Taunton LR garage to check that the sim slot was working, they said yes. Got a sim from Virgin....doesn’t work. Tried the sim from my phone in a size adapter and it worked (but I nearly got it stuck) Ordered a new sim from the same provider as the phone (EE)....put it in and it doesn’t recognise sim. Tried my phone one back in and it doesn’t recognise sim.
Any thoughts?
Such a stupid set up. I know I can (and do) use Apple Car Play but I want to be able to use the in built sat nav sometimes without it being “offline” not updated and with no traffic info.
Either its very specific about the sim (which I doubt) or I have a slightly dodgy connection which I fluked once.
Help as I am going mad and now have many many sims 🤔

I bought a 12 month EE data only SIM off amazon and it works fine (well, on 3G only) - my question is, how long did you wait for it to see if it worked? I left mine in the car for ages before it registered. By that I mean I gave up waiting, locked and left it and it was a few hours later when I checked and it showed a signal.

It took me even longer to create a satnav account and log in so it didn't say "HELLO SARAH" every time I set off but that's a different story!

Get the "Internet with Legs" sim from 3 (Amazon give choices depending on Gb), or get one from UBIGI which is the dedicated LR sim on new cars, again with a number of options. Thumbs Up All LR cars from 1984

I have recently refreshed mine with 24gb 2 year 4G SIM from Three (around £45 from Amazon). I registered the SIM in my iPad first and then transferred it to the car. All good Thumbs Up SDV8 AB MY 2019

I’ve got a 12 month 3 Sim in mine as I wasn’t sure whether I would like the LR NAV or would just use CarPlay and it’s been fine but it did take an hour or so to register with the Network which is fairly normal. I’ve just bought a 24 month Sim which will need to go in next week. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

The issues in mine were diagnosed as bent pins and I had to have a new reader. Others have reported the same so my guess is it a poor design and easily fubarred. Its possible that some damage was done during the adapter insertion/extraction if it wasn't straight forward. So may need another LR check?? Just an idea. Mike - MPx

Thanks for all of the responses. I’m going on a drive to London tomorrow (2 hours min each way) so will see if that jogs it into life.
Would be much easier if it was just built in and then you were charged £9/month for it to work or similar. I’m sure somebody once thought it was a good idea!!

They already have telematics built in so you'd think it would make sense just to add another feature on the incontrol package with annual subscription. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography
