United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey
2011 tdv8 project

I have been doing lots of searching over the last few weeks and most of the answers are on here, so I thought I would introduce myself rather than just quietly use the resources!

I have taken a gamble with a 'cheap' MY11, it is an Overfinch, I know they are not to everyone's taste but personally I like the look of the 322 as it is not too over the top. I guess the yellow calipers, wheels, bumpers, rear spoiler and exhaust are the only things that make it so? It was a bit of an impulse purchase and I have no real prior RR experience!

No doubt it will turn out I paid too much, it will cost twice as much and take 3 times as long as I want it to but its relatively low mileage (93k), the bodywork seems decent and the interior is in excellent condition so I hope it can make a nice car at the end of it.

It needs a new lens for the high level brake light, the centre screen seems to be non functional, it has been sat for a long time and has not MOT, oh and the engine is seized..

Having read about the starter motor issues that was the first thing I checked, but I wasn't so lucky for it just to be that causing the click when pressing the button! It is quite a strange one, all the fluids are in all the right places, boost pipes are not full of oil, no holes in the block (not that I have seen yet anyway!) so I intend to remove and see exactly what is going on inside. I have for now stripped the front end off to gain proper access and attempted to give the bottom pulley a turn, it is definitely stuck! I will be having a friend with small garage business drop the engine out and then proceed from there. I am very dubious of these supply and fit eBay adverts so I will not be going down that avenue, but if anyone is aware of a known good engine for reasonable money I may just go for a simple swap it could work out cheaper in the long run.

I will keep updating with progress along the way, which will no doubt provide amusement to the more experienced members if nothing else Thumbs Up

That looks really nice mate. The Overfinch is the only non standard car I like.

The 4.4 is epic..... when it’s running obviously. Keep the faith....

Good luck with your project.

Good luck with your project! If all the fluids are in the right places and are at the right level, I wonder what's caused it to seize 🤔

You definitely enjoy a challenge Sir! hope all goes well with the car, looks like a nice motor.
Will be interesting to hear what happens as the story unfolds, the seizure sounds like a bit of a mystery. keep us all posted Thumbs Up

Thanks guys.

I don't have much time to investigate too deeply in its current position as the guys at work don't want to have car parts spread far and wide, removing the oil filter I see a fair bit of bronze coloured debris, but there are no silver looking particles. Perhaps I may get away with a new set of bearings and possible crank replacement. Although I don't want to get too far ahead of myself yet so will still be having a good look inside before jumping to any conclusion.

I don't think randomly spinning a main/big end bearing is a common issue for these so I would be keen to find a cause before blindly putting it back together.

Thanks I had a quick flick through it, over 4000 pages it is quite a read! It took me long enough to read through 30 pages of the oil feed 'o' ring and oil cooler discussion last night...

There are a couple of links for 2010 to 2012 workshop manuals. One is, as you say, 4000 pages, the other is arranged in numerous folders to find the relevant PDF.

You may prefer one to the other....

Looks good that Mike. I actually prefer the overfinch it's the only FF I ever wanted. I know some people on here don't take like them, but then it's all down to personal taste. The trouble with me I like to be different hence why I don't have and never will have an iPhone because everyone has one. I've had my overfinch for over 3 months now and it gets so much attention everywhere I go, though that's something I didn't factor in when I bought it but I just had to have me it. Now everyone at my works calls it the pimpmobile Laughing
Hope you get yours up and running soon and share some more pics.

The manual broken up into different sections is much more useable thanks for that suggestion, I was struggling to find the bits I wanted to read in the other version tbh!

Thanks Bb, I had a quick look at yours in the post you have made and it certainly is a bit different in that colour you don't see many in that, looks spot on. I will get some progress updates and pics along the way, I am hoping it wont drag on into something that takes forever but it probably will..

And thanks for the QP suggestion, I haven't come across them in any of the searching I have done so far but they seem to be well reviewed and tackle jobs of any size. Definitely worth a phone call at least cheers.

Tinman, had a look at that OP online, they certainly know their stuff. They show you on Facebook (I'm not on Facebook) but it's open to public viewing, the state of the engines when they fail. And some fail big time judging by the wrecks.

Thanks, it certainly stands out from the rest. I've yet to see another in that colour.
