Brake problem

Right 2007 3.6 tdv8 had the rear brake lines done and bleed through was all ok. But got a bit of a problem now. So now this is the problem, when you press the brakes slowly all brakes work fine but if you push a little harder on the brakes it feels like the backs bite first before the fronts and kinda grabs the front brake but just a lot harsher I think. Anyone come across this or think it could be air even through been bleed twice with eazi bleed I think I’m gonna have to use the iid tool but does do it any different?

Snatching brakes are usually down to sticking callipers, brake gently and the rears will do all the braking, press harder and the stuck front pistons unstick and grab the disc hard...

As with most brake issues, a strip down, check and clean sounds in order... Thumbs Up Pete

Think Haylands above post is probably spot on, Thumbs Up

Some folks may disagree, but were all four corners of the brake system bled ? I renewed my rear brake lines then bled the whole system. This bleed procedure is from somewhere else on this site - (RHD: 1.LF 2. RF 3. LR 4. RR)
I bled the rears first, then followed above the procedure.
I went round the system twice to remove all traces of air, using a Gunson ezzibleed tool, time consuming but easy.

If you ran dry in the reservoir when bleeding you may have air in the ABS unit, you need a diagnostic tool to programme it to bleed itself... Pete

Thanks guys for the response. I’ve got an iid tool to do the brake bleeding again. Sadly no better although it took 15mins or so for the iid tool to keep pumping the brake and refilling the reservoir the other sides passenger front and both rears was done in 5mins and the abs pump kept priming it sounded. So I thinking your right Pete it’s gotta be the calliper bouncing as such on/off. It’s really weird. Now just gotta take them off and I suppose grease the pistons up??

You clean the pistons up, greasing them won't help... it can be just hardened grease that makes them sticky, get someone to gently press the pedal without pads in, get the pistons out a bit then clamp them back in, do it a few times, also check the guide pins that IIRC your model has on the front...

If it gets better then starts again you know you need some new ones...!! Pete

Hi Pete I’ve finally got time to do the brakes been mega busy. I’ve tried what you suggested and now the brakes feel even more worst like a lot more grabby…think it could be the calliper?

So I’ve checked all the callipers none are sticking…bleed again no air what’s so ever. When reversing it brakes as normal no grabbing and releasing works perfect,but only happens when going forward very very strange I don’t know if I’m missing something here or I’m thinking out loud could it be the master cylinder playing up hence fine reversing but not right on the fronts??? Help me lol

What condition are your discs in? If the edges have a rusty lip the pads can sort of wedge in when pressed hard.

They was new about a year ago both pads and discs before I bought the car. See what is weird it only happens when driving forward if reversing then the brakes work as they should. I’m leaning towards the master cylinder playing up maybe a seal starting to go??

My pedal went to the floor slowly when I needed a new master cylinder. I braked really hard and split a pipe, so the pedal went further than normal which pushed the piston in the master cylinder past the normal working position and stuffed the seal.

I got it fixed but they had to go through the bleed procedure 4 or 5 times before the initial pedal play was removed.

Right I think I’m gonna have to take this in somewhere because I’ve changed the master and given the brembo brakes new pistons and greased up using the hydraulic grease they gave me and the thing is still doing it…I’m at my wits end!! Could it be the abs pump?? Dunno now
