Buying at auction?

Has anyone on here bought a FFRR from any of the UK auctions?

If so what was your experience? And what kind of discount over trade is realisable?

Lastly is it possible to get an AA inspection or equivalent done prior to auction?

I’m wondering if this is a way to get a 4.4tdv8 on a budget

Tbh by time you've paid auction fees your not much better off money wise as its sold as seen.

Regards to the aa I'm sure they all have to have an inspection before being sold as standard but its not an indepth one just one that says yes its got 5 wheels, no obvious damage, no overheating and no leaks.

Too many members of the public at auctions for there to be any true discounts any more, the prices are just crazy.... Pete

I bought my L322 at a BCA auction back in February 2019. 96,000 miles, one owner, service history. I paid £5500 inc fees

I bought mine off eBay (auction format). It was cheap, cheap, but it needed to be with the amount that was wrong with it!

Sounds like it could be a good bet at the right time once the market calms down again. Hearing the chip shortage should start to ease in October. Those are both nice rangies, what engines yours?

Or it could end up like Peugeot, they’ve gone back to an analogue dashboard in the 308!

Jim, is BCA open to the public again? Or just trade buyers now?

I bought mine (4.4 TDV8) through Mannheim in Manchester just under 2 years ago, 88k miles main dealer history, Conti’s all round, couple of paint blemishes on the rear bumper. Hammer went down at 13.8k with trade fees 14.1k out the door. Vogue Centre would probably put this up at £17k+? Fees (commission) will hit you very hard if you haven’t a trade account, so be very mindful of that, mine would have been in excess of £800 otherwise.
You can look on Mannheim & BCA to see what’s available but you won’t be able to access the estimated prices unless you have a trade account. Just see who’s putting the car in, I was lucky, mine was ex Barclays Bank, turned out the previous owner bought her on a PCP & simply handed her back at the end of the term. Owed the bank £16k so the previous owner said.
I would certainly buy from an auction as long as you go with a sensible & open mind. Until the auction centres open their doors, is still all onl8ne bidding but hopefully that will come to an end shortly. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

I'm a partner in a mainstream, well known vehicle auction.
We have always been a business to business auction - our philosophy being that we believe the public should have rights following purchase, get warranties and have finance arranged if required. We don't advertise in the press as (our thousands of) registered buyers have gone through verification processes to validate their business status, not least VAT registration and a nominated bank account from which all payments to us are made.
Our 'playing field' (in normal times) is generally balanced with the supply / demand, but it does get distorted - over supply means cheaper pricing, and short supply, like it is currently, creates huge demand. Thus pricing has increased dramatically. New vehicle supply being the primary culprit just now.
My company is currently closely adhering to the Governments 'road map' and we have re-opened our doors to buyers wishing to view and attend our different sales. We are aware that our competitors BCA and Manheim have not re-opened their doors and are only holding online sales, which limits them to trade buyers only, basically you can't police public online bidding. We understand both companies have no immediate plans to change their current policies.

Cheers,

Thanks for the update Mike I’ll search your company out and have a look at process etc as I’m unfamiliar with auctions for vehicle purchasing
