TDV8 4.4 is a great engine and gearbox combo. I've done 40k miles in 2 years and unfortunately have the bills to prove it. But for a great place to be and smooth driving experience I doubt anything else comes close under £30k

I'm keen to learn if you've had anything go wrong and what or, if general wear and tear and services? 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Other than general maintenance incl front disc and pads all round

2020: Oil cooler seals, aircon leak, High level brake light
2021: Exhaust temperature sensor, EGR valve replacement, rear door latch

about £3000 per annum all in (excl fuel, tyres & insurance)

Bought it with 48k, now sitting on 90k miles

Glad you specified air cooled seats, i have them on mine and they are amazing. Should I choose another car in the future, air cooled seats will be a must. Such a great option to have on a car and over the last few days in this heat they have been wonderful. The rear seats are air cooled too.

And if you do a lot of towing the 4.4 is epic. When we were moving house I did 300 mile round trips with a 3.5T car trailer with a variety of loads and it just shifts it without a murmur. Also decent size twin axle tin tent.

When we upgraded from our TD6 I thought about the TdV6 but decided on the V8 instead and 35k later (120k) no regrets at all.

Cheers,

I've got around a £10k budget to replace my L322 with a head gasket problem.

What's the best 4x4 I can get for that? It has to be a large 4x4 capable of towing 3T or more, as I tow boats.

The obvious options are:

Range Rover Vogue 3.6 (like I've got a the moment but newer and lower miles) (<100k)
Range Rover 4.4 diesel (higher miles I.e. 130k+)
Range Rover Vogue/Sport 3.0 TDV6 (c.110k)
Audi Q7 - presumably there's a 3L V6 diesel
Porsche Cayenne 3.0 V6 petrol
Volvo XC90 D5

Air cooled seats are a must for me so, this does really limit me to the Range Rovers i'd imagine?

What's the best and most reliable car I can get for around that money, considering age and mileages? I am only looking at 1/2 owner cars (3 at a push), private sales and preferably full service history.

Well my FF ticks all those boxes and was under £9k

For £10k it must be a bargain. Whistle 2010 Range Rover TDV8 Baltic Blue Autobiography (2011 MY) - SOLD Sad

Also well within budget is an L320 RRS with the 3.0L TDV6. What are these like?

My dad has the Jag XF with the 3.0L TDV6 and it's a fabulous engine in that car. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

No, 4.4 TDV8, and "lowish" mileage. Rolling with laughter

Well, that's testament to a well maintained V8 diesel - capable of well.over quarter of a million miles.

Same kind of question - issues/repairs? 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Think with used car prices being inflated at the moment then 4.4tdv8 are mainly back above £10k!

Sorry to be the naysayer! Perhaps that’s just what I’m seeing on auto trader

They're just a smidge above though. If it's a 3.6 or a 4.4 for 1-2k more, it seems like it's worth forking out. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I shall make this easier, if the 3.6 lunches it’s turbos, you will most likely need a new engine. If the 4.4 has its oil cooler leaking, it will drip oil. An oil cooler is cheaper to replace than an engine.

Regarding issues / repairs, after a shaky start my FF has served me well, but I have spent a lot each annual service in order to get a "no advisory" MoT ticket each time.

You can see most of the detail here:-
