Fault Light Central / IID Tool Questions

I have a 2008 RR HSE SC (the big one, not the sport) / Occasionally I will start her up and I get lights for multiple failures. Typically it starts with a traction control and goes on to the hill descent control, anti-lock brakes, etc. My mechanic - who is a dedicated independent LR guy - claims there is nothing "wrong" per se but when these systems go to initialize they sense a blip in the power supply and go offline. The battery is NEW and the charging system has been tested with no issues.


So my question is has anyone experienced this issue and if so how did they resolve it?


Second question


I have a bluedriver tool but it only seems to pick up on the more generic fault codes. IF I were to get something like an IID tool I know it will cause the fault lights on the dash to go out but - and this is a dumb question - is it actually resetting that system and placing it back in working order.


With no fault lights showing up on starting, I aired down my tires this weekend and drove out on the beach. Turned off the truck and stayed for while. Got back in the truck and it started normally; again with no fault lights. As I tried to climb the hill to get back off the beach, all the fault lights re-appeared. Traction control, HDC, anti-locks, etc. It did seem to me that I was indeed losing traction and it was difficult to climb the hill to get back out; took me several tries. Was that in my head or was there really less traction? If I had an IID tool or similiar to re-set the lights would it make any difference.


I just - JUST - put new 19" wheels and A/T type tires on this truck to the tune of $2000 so I would really like to be able to use it to drive on the beach...

JLR never made a car to "normally" put lights on when you start... it's not normal at all so the first thing is maybe look for a new mechanic...

Buying an IID and doing it yourself is the best way, all those faults are speed dependant so you could have a left rear ABS sensor failing, this supplies speed to the various ECU's...

Again if it's failing the systems won't work and you get stuck on the beach....

Don't forget to move the dial to the substance you are driving on...

I have an appointment on August 10 to take the truck in.

Perhaps I will buy the IID device and get started on the diagnostic process.

for lack of better terms, I suspect something is happening prior to these sub-systems - traction control, hill descent, etc - "booting up" that is causing them to fail to initiate properly.

it's a long shot but if you have the MOST system then it could be that one component is going off-line an that sets all the rest off (they are like a one way road system). It may be a frayed wire or a short somewhere which only appears when movement occurs?

Just a thought.
