AirCon Service Rip Off ???

So my RR is in for a 48k service, and they have listed as amber a aircon service @ 450.00!!! I think they are taking the Censored unless i am missing something? My local kwick fit will do it for 125, apparently thats more than normal due to the more expensive gas the RR uses...
Thoughts?

its not part of the 48k mile service so although its showing an 'amber' i would get the diagnosis double checked and go with the cheapest quote. ... - .- -.

Which dealer?

I’d challenge the price quoted and point out the lower quote.

Coulsdon, and my bad its the 64k service so the big one, needs a new compressor as well but that should be under warranty

As the compressor can't be changed without removing/refilling the gas I can't see how they can justify charging anything for gas if the compressor is under warranty?

Isn’t it amber just because of time rather than there being any real need to get it done?

VW did the same on my wife’s car when it was in for service last time, as it was 3 years old they put it down as an amber issue on the inspection. It’s blowing really cold, so I’m not getting it done as it would feel like a waste of money.

But in this case, I agree that they should be paying for it as part of the compressor change. Definitely. But maybe they haven’t linked the two things and it’s a standard ‘revenue opportunity’ that they’ve put on the paperwork? MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

There is no time period to get the air conditioning gas refilled. If it ain't broke and it's performing adequately, there's no need to do anything. Kev

Absolutely, servicing should be done in line with the manufacturers service schedule and it is silly not to.

Where does the manufacturer specify to service the air conditioning system every 2 years and replace the receiver drier?

It certainly is not in the service sheets located on the wiki here. Kev

Best way to check the compressor function is to take the pressures from the ports when operating, if OK, then leave well alone. That check for leaks, if it still blowing nice and cold, chances are that you will not find a leak.

Nothing to service on an aircon system gents, sealed system, nothing can get in or out, only needs looked at when it doesn't work properly, usually due to a leak of refrigerant.
