m62 MAF/DTC133 throttle spring actuator

I wonder if anyone can help here.

I have a fault where the car (m62 v8 l322) wont run corrrectly (hutting/cutting out and no throttle control). It shows Engine failsafe on the dash too.

If I disconnect the MAF, it runs lovely and throttles up as expected.

If I disconnect the thermostat the problem remains and the code on hawkeye suggests DTC 133: Throttle actuator spring test.

One assumes now that the throttle body is faulty, but I cant figure out why it appears to work fine with the MAF disconnected.

A common issue seems to be on the m62 the wiring from the stat to the ebox becoming frayed/burnt, but that isnt the case here, and I cant see how it can be faulty on the engine application in the l322, especially as disconnection seems to make no difference.

Has anyone come across anything similar?

Cheers

This problem is still causing me a headache.

I've swapped the throttle body for a used but good one, tested the wires from the stat housing to the e-box/maf and all is well there.

replaced the maf and looked at the readings on the hawkeye for the throttle body and they all work as expected.

I still cant understand why the car runs well with the MAF disconnected. This should rule out pretty much everything shoudnt it?

Does anyone have any ideas why this fault would be there?
