2003 m62 engine ecu swap

Morning

Does anyone know if I were to swap the engine ecu out of a same year 2003 with the same engine if that would work or would it require re programming? Would it work enough to try and see if my ecu was faulty and causing problems with engine fail safe relating to the Maf?
