Issue:
JLR has identified an issue on the Oil Level Gauge (Dipstick) where the markings are incorrect. ​

Cause:
Marking is too low by 10-12mm. If the engine is filled to the top Oil Level Gauge mark, then it will contain less than the maximum oil level
Action:
When servicing the engine, please refer to TOPIx section 303-01: Engine - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol/INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol - Specification and fill the specified capacity of oil. Do not use the Oil Level Gauge top mark to confirm oil fill level.

As a concerned user, I'm asking myself, wouldn't it be easier to just replace the dipsticks? Will all service technicians remember this bulletin over the years? 2019 Vogue P400e

Agreed, although this SSM raises further questions
Critically, is the minimum level as marked also incorrect?
Does this affect the entire production run of the Ingenium engine?
Are owners going to be notified of this issue? if not I would expect dealers receiving complaints that vehicles had been overfilled with oil on servicing (although it would be one way to ascertain how many owners actually checked the oil level between services)
As asked, are JLR going to do the sensible thing and provide a correctly marked dipstick?

In short order, yes it would be better to replace and; no future technicians won't know unless they refer to some records. Speaking as an owner of more than one classic car this has happened several times to my knowledge in the past (not always dip-sticks) and unless you get an older mechanic to work on your car when it's past it's prime problems will get overlooked or expensively solved again.

Some will tell you that modern cars will never reach the stage of classic ownership/restoration due to the changing availability of fuel in the future. But when I was driving round in new Triumph Stags in the mid Seventies a lot of people would have said the same thing then about those- la plus ca change, la plus le meme chose.
