Panic buying fuel

Just managed to get my wife's car refueled after 2 days with no fuel anywhere in the area Censored . Typically my wife usually has around 10 miles range in her car at most times (RR evoque) and when she came home from work after Thursday night the panic buying had already started so she was unable to fill up Rolling Eyes

She is due back at work tomorrow morning at 6am (Intensive care nurse) and would not have been able to get there due to the stupidity of people running the tanks dry but luckily our local station had a delivery at 3am this morning so we managed to get some. Guess this means the pumps will be unusually quiet for the next few weeks Rolling Eyes

Hopefully this experience will encourage her not to always run on fumes Whistle Paul

I feel your pain!

I am convinced my wife thinks there is a “Fuel Fairy” in our house as her cars mysteriously fill themselves up. Wink

It’s crackers, I’ve seen pictures on Instagram of folks filling a dozen green jerry cans, and one chap filling an IBC on a trailer with diesel…… which unless he has a license to store it is illegal.

Loads of fuel stations round here are empty, but magically fill up overnight, it’s almost like there isn’t a shortage….. and the lack of fuel at the pumps is down to idiocy.

Fortunately I filled 5 gallon Jerry’s a couple of weeks back for the mower, so should swmbo run out ive got a weeks worth, and the D4 was full, so was the FF, filled last week, so is the van which I filled about 3 weeks back. Worst case I’ve got about a months worth of fuel in various vehicles, and by then the next news cycle will be on the Telly and folks will have moved on to the next news “Crisis” and be panic buying the next item on the shortage list….. probably calor gas for the winter……. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Stupid in Winchester, no petrol anywhere. Just syphoned 25 litres out of my MG and wife's Audi TT (currently broken, ironically with a fuel problem!) which should keep us on the move locally until this silliness is over. .

Panic buying is ridiculous, the media actually fuels it.

Not me anyway but just to be safe I charged my car, wife's car, laptop, tablet, both mobile phones and my power tools Very Happy

I have had the odd gloat to the petrol heads that mock EV's on facebook, you guys here are fine though Very Happy It's kind of smug feeling driving past the queues of people waiting to panic buy their fuel which oddly has shot up in price over the last 2 days. BMW i3 Electric Car

As my complete household are all isolating due to catching the covid lurgy, we currently do not need diesel and will not need any for another 7 days at least. Ner Ner
Hopefully by then common sense will prevail, but with so many idiots at large in today's society, I am not holding my breath. Censored Banging Head

Problem is it’s not just the BBC. The rumours start on social media ( Censored is it? Something like that) which lazy journos follow to see what’s trending and therefore what the next big story is. Pitiful really, but that’s how it seems to be now. These platforms are no more than a few numpties talking amongst themselves, a bit like the group you always ignored when you were in the pub because they just spoke b0ll0x.

it is crazy i drove from Liverpool to Daventry and every Fuel station had a massive queue on the motorways, get back to daventry and they are all dry!!! the idiots have gone and used every drop so there are 10 filling stations within 5 miles from where i live and none of them have any fuel!!

luckily out little ol fiesta has half a tank.

the media said a couple of stations shut due to not getting a delivery and everyone went mad!!

so the RR is on the drive until we get some fuel near home. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

I think I will wait to fill up, wouldn’t like to be pumping the bottom of the barrel into my baby. I’m sure they don’t allow them to run dry, I hope.
