Rear Shock Absorbers & Air Springs

My SC is sagging at the rear when parked up for a few days so I’m going to look at changing the rear air bags out. I’ll likely do the rear shock absorbers at the same time as I believe they’re original.

For rear shocks and air bags from Duckworths the bill is going to be around £1300 which I’d rather not pay if I can avoid it.

Euro Car Parts do Bilstein shock absorbers for £63 each versus the £332 for genuine so it’s a no brainer to look at Bilstein unless someone can advise me otherwise?

Genuine Rear air bags are £361 each. Looking online you can get AllMakes, Bearmach, Arnott, Bilstein, etc. What are a good alternative to genuine for air bags?

Thanks,

Bilstein are OEM for rear shocks, well they were on my 2002 and my 2012 so they should be fine...

I think Delphi were OEM on the rear airbags but any branded make should be OK... Thumbs Up Pete

As for the air struts, some people may denigrate my choice. A pair of mine are now at least 10 years old and still in very good order.

Fingers crossed, as you know what will happen tomorrow after making that statement. Whistle

Doohhhh forgot to mention the brand - Dunlop - and made in the UK, makes a nice change

I assume the Euro Car Parts price is for standard rear chock absorbers as opposed to the CVD ones which you would need for a 2012 model? (Unless you intend to do away with the CVD system, as some have done on here?) 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀

I would talk to Island 4x4 who seem to supply several different makes as well as genuine parts, I'm sure they would advise which are the correct parts. BMW i3 Electric Car

I recently got Arnott for the front and am very pleased with them. In the past I have had Delphi from Island 4x4 and would be more than happy with them again. John

Indeed, these are the standard rear shocks, not the adaptive ones for the later cars.

Island 4x4 list Bilstein dampers and air springs. They're more expensive then euro for the dampers so I'll order them locally and will probably order Bilstein air springs from Island.

A Trap

Bilstein rears seem to be out of stock with most suppliers. Might be due to Covid and their manufacturing movements in the UK?

Very little choice out there.

2 Shock absorbers and 2 air springs ordered.

Euro Car Parts total bill was £126.08p for a pair of Bilstein rear shock absorbers.

Island 4x4 total bill was £359.98p for a pair of Bilstein rear air springs.

Total including delivery for both £486.06p, so £900 cheaper then using Genuine Parts.

I love fitting Genuine LR parts where I can as they just fit and generally are a better quality. However, I'm fairly certain Bilstein make the dampers for LR so I'm kinda hoping they will be a similar quality. The air springs I know are made by ContiTech but I'm hoping the Bilstein ones are a decent quality too.

Looking at it another way, these aren't difficult to replace and I can do them another 2 more times before I've spent the same as I would have done on LR parts!

I need to do my shocks at the rear at some point but they are the electronic type so they're 350 quid each.

I think I'm going to get Arnott ones. Christian.
