2012 HVAC Auto settings

Without going into unnecessary detail, I’ve had to have most of the HVAC system replaced, including the main panel - the first replacement panel itself having to be replaced again under warranty. Anyway, it’s been months since it worked normally so please can someone tell me if this is normal behaviour.

1) On startup, HVAC always resets to full Auto with air recirc switched off. Is this normal or should it remember the previous settings?

2) With the fan in Auto, will it run to full power if the temp controller is selected to max or min? Fan speed barely seems to change with a change in selected temperature. Manual control seems to work as expected.

Thanks. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

I was going to reply….. “From memory, I think that’s about right,” but I’m not sure now 🤣

I know my blower goes full when I press the Max Defrost button.

It speeds up if it’s hot outside and I select the min setting, but never full I don’t think.

Will try to remember to do a test when I’m next out.

Thanks. Can anyone else help please as it may avoid the dash coming out for the third time. Luckily LR paid for the second one. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

I sometimes get a similar experience to item 1 on your list. My 2012 Westminster will most times 'remember' the HVAC settings, then on odd occasions it all resets to Auto, same as you get. I've just put it down to a 'quirk' with the ECUs.
Don't know if using different keys to lock / unlock the FF causes the memory settings to change for the HVAC. I'm not sure if you can program the keys to choose HVAC settings when you use them, as with the Seats, Mirrors and Steering Column.
I have two keys for the FF, one for me and one for SWMBO. If she uses her key, it changes the Seat config, etc., when she uses her key (bloody annoying as she never drives the FF and hasn't set her seat and driving position, so the seat ends up all over the place!).
Haven't noticed anything on your 2nd Item though, may check later when I'm out and about.

Had a play about when I was out yesterday.

Engine was warmed up, so coolant temperature wasn’t limiting anything. I’m normally warm, so I’m normally only 1 or 2 clicks up from the freeze settings on both dials. Moved them both to full (though you don’t have to do this, as the drivers side overrides the passenger settings when the extremes are selected) and the fan only increased a minimum amount after a few seconds. Barely noticeable. Though I’ve a feeling it did redirect the air about a bit.

One thing I have noticed is that the fan sounds much quieter when the AC is switched off. As soon as I turn the AC on, there is a noticeable change in the fan noise and speed, regardless of the temperature setting, even though the fan speed hasn't been changed on the dial.

My 61 plate VSE remembers the settings. I have it on auto fan but with all 3 vents open (buttons below the dial) That only changes when SWMBO has driven the car...... Banging Head

As for fan speed on auto - it only increases when it thinks it can provide air of the right temperature to achieve what you are asking for - i.e. if with a cold engine you put it on max heat it wont increase the fan speed until it can actually blow warmer air than ambient. Bish.

It’s a very clever system. Blasting air into the cabin at great speed is very uncivilised and not befitting the Range Rover marque 🤣🤣
