Well my saga rolls on and my 25 miles of range rover L322 is a distant memory, but now I need some advice.

The dealer has actually been very good. They sorted the rear paint and broken mud flaps and send the RR to a LR main dealer to investigate the drain. They didn't find one initially, so changed to a new battery. That's seemed like a win.

Then they found that a level sensor was causing a drain and changed that, so that seems like another win.

Then they found an intermittent start issue was the starter and changed that, so that seems liked yet another win.

To be honest I only wish the alternator was faulty as well

Now the downsides are they couldn't get some old glue from where the old rear plate was, ok I could just get an oversize number plate, or number plate surround.

Also despite LR aligning the sunroof, its still not flush and the dealer agrees its the cause of the excess wind noise.

And finally, it went into limp home on their test drive . I'm thinking they've disconnected/knocked something during the starter replacement, but will find out.

So the outcome is that they don't want me to have the car back and will refund my full price and a few hundred compensation.

My pickle is that if I'm wanted a low mileage RR within a reasonable distance, then this is the one. I've looked on AT and other than a (to me) garish white AB at the same price, there is nothing I want at this price range (well except a Bentley Arnage T ), so I should I just tell them, sorry guys you need to fix my car, and their lack of profit is their
problem?

I cannot afford the bump up to an L405, and I'm not sure I prefer it anyway. I was getting the compo whether or not I was keeping the car, maybe I could push for for if I let them have it back?

So what to do

They've probably realised they can now sell it for more and reduce their losses or even make a profit, what with rising prices and shortages of vehicles. If you're happy enough with it (now) then maybe its time to have it and hopefully enjoy it!! But accepting if with any remaining known issues might be a big ask!!

Better is subjective, its got 50k and I did pay £22k (yes I know), so subjectively its as new and as low miles as I can get and want. Also very clean MOT history; its amazing how many don't!

I doubt they want to sit on it; although that's the second time someone has said that to me, but £20K+ L322s are not exactly flying off of forecourts are they. I'm actually thinking that as I've had this in month 1, that they KNOW they'll have have the liability to support those issues for a full 6 months and given they are part of a group that includes a LR main dealer, then this is near as possible the best support I can get, even if they don't like it.

I'll see what the DTC's are. As an aside I had a Jeep Commander than went into the main dealer for a minor warranty fix, then when I drove it away the EGT had seized, so a new one of those was needed too, under warranty of course. Encourage alternative fuels, use all the petrol!

If your happy with the spec of the car and the car it’s self stick with it there aren’t that many around with 50k miles on them but a fair few with 80-100k all depends on what you want.

I bought our 2011 Ab for £14250 with 80k after the seller let us give it a full inspection with access to their ramp in short it was a good car but the previous owner obviously either clearly could afford the maintenance or just didn’t care the car it’s self body work and interior was stunning but mechanically needs work,cost me just over 2.5k in parts luckily enough I did the work my self as would dread to think what a specialist would charge.

In short ide stick with yours with the cover you got with it

Only you can really decide. Some of the faults you describe are minor but some would give me a bit of a pause.

For instance. it seems a bit strange that LR can't align the sunroof and makes one think is there an underlying fault?

Also it isn't always a given that low mileage is a good thing. These cars like to be used.

It definitely seems as if the dealer has lost confidence in the car.

Ask why? what is seriously wrong with the car? was the limp home a pending Engine failure etc? it sounds very suspicious

I would take the money and watch the auctions, I bet they have found out it's a Lemon and want to off load it from dealerships. You might then be able to re-buy your lemon at a huge discount if you want to live with the faults you know about.
Was it on any warranty? another reason to pull the plug if its a lemon.

Take the money. Buy an older TD6. Put whatever is left over into Premium Bonds. Wait until the new year for prices to normalise.

I too am wandering what else they might have discovered that they now don’t want to have to do the warranty work on.

Difficult one….. especially if it ticks the boxes colour and options wise…

But…. Prices are good at the minute… think I’d take the money…

Interested to know why they have changed stance though….

Have you considered that the low mileage could be because it's spent half of it's life off the road being fixed?
You can't expect a car this age to be faultless but that seems like a lot of apparently unlinked faults in a short period of time.
Personally I'd take the money
