TV tuner / boot modules help

Edited as I had messed up adding the photo.....

Hello,

I am new to the forum and have a new (to me) 2011 TDV8.

When trying to watch digital TV I only get interference on screen as if it were an analogue TV with no antenna. I have made sure the system is set to the UK etc.

On investigation I looked in the boot and noticed the following oddities:

- There were two disconnected RF connectors (one can be seen in the centre of the attached image) the other I refitted to the module (antenna amplifier AIUI) in the top right of the image
- The connector to the black module (top centre) was loose so again I tightened the thread and made sure it was secure
- A bit of the wiring harness has been chopped out, as though a module has been removed from the system at some point. (dead wiring shown in centre left of image)

The PAG hybrid TV module is present but I still have no home for one more RF connector so am wondering what is going on!

Help please!

Ben

I think I would start with a IID GAP diagnostics tool. It's a bit expensive (like £400 ish) but I've found it to be worth its weight in gold as it checks virtually every system within the RR. I know it checks the TV system as I had a fault on mine which identified an antenna fault.

I know this wont help too much with your exact fault now but it may end up being the only way if you don't get any helpful replies.

I have tried automatic tuning which I assume should just work and manual which lets me change channels but finds nothing

OK I found some other images on the web which explained lots.

Whoever had been in there before me had put wires back in the wrong places, this is what the module wiring now looks like. The connector that should have been in one of the two identical modules was previously unconnected and the connection to the TV antenna amplifier was connected to one of the two other modules.

Now it looks like this which I think is how it should be.

However still no picture. I will keep working through the workshop manuals

This is mine if it helps, though I do have RSE, but imagine TV wiring is the same….

That is brilliant thank you. It looks like I have all the antenna plugged into the right places (I have also checked the RHS antenna and it is per the workshop manual)

The wiring diagram shows that the four antenna are connected via two connectors on the tuner module. Other connections are MOST and then a picture output for RSE (which I don't have).

There is a 5th connector which looks like it might fit the 'spare' bit of loom I also found in the boot but no reference to this in the wiring diagrams so I think it is a red herring.

I guess a diagnostic tool will let me see if the TV module is in fact working at all!

I’m not entirely sure, but won’t the TV option disappear from the menu if the module isn’t working? I know it used to on the early L322’s with BMW based iBus systems. Totally different to ours I know.

OK progress to report. After checking all the antenna cables were in the right place I gave up and went to bed. This morning I started my drive to work and by the time I was about a mile up the road I had TV reception. Seems my driveway is not in a strong signal area, no doubt not helped earlier on by at least two of the antenna not being connected.

I can now ignore the TV for evermore but have the warm feeling that something that didn't work now does!

That’s good. I find I have to sometimes retune mine when I stop in a different area.

Don’t use it much though, really have to have the engine running…..

To add a conclusion to this thread I was cleaning my other L322 in preparation for selling it and tried the TV button, assuming it was analogue, only to be greeted with a perfect picture. Had the car many months now and had never even bothered to see if it had a digital tuner!
