Is it worth an extra £10k

I've been away.

My local RR main stealer so pi**ed me off, I sold mmy ABand bought an Audi.

But the FF haunts me and I've been looking at Autotrader.

Found an Overfinched 2012MY Westminster 4.4 for just under £25k ...

... and a 2014 Vogue SE 4.4 for just under £35k.

A £10k difference for a car which is 2 years newer. Although it is, of course, the newer model.

What do you all think, is it worth the extra? What do I put here then?

Difficult to say without knowing mileages, history, number of owners etc. £25k is about right in the current market for a low mile minter but when the market has cooled it could suddenly drop in value quite hard. No idea on the L405 but I'd want a later one that's ULEZ compliant if I was going to pay that much. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thank you for the advice.

When does the ULEZ compliance start? What do I put here then?

Thank you.

As you’ve had both a L322 and L405, is the newer model miles better? What do I put here then?

Everything else being equal, the difference in price seems about right.

The L405 is better IMHO - it's a newer design so lots of little things. Is it worth the difference - only you can answer that one.

It’s better, but…..

Lights aren’t as good and the seats are not quite so comfortable - there’s a whole thread on that point. Overall I think the 405 is better though. As more than 1 has said the 405 is a better car but the 322 is a better Range Rover.

Exactly what Alistair said, they are both cracking cars I only moved to the L405 because I had had the L322 5 years and felt It was time to change not because I needed to in any way. Is it worth nearly the £30k I had to put in probably not but it is certainly better in most aspects and an absolute pleasure to own.

Insurance was a killer the L405 was 3x the L322 but then road tax was much cheaper Very Happy

I would say get behind the wheel of a few and you will soon get a feel for what you want, I probably buck the trend in thinking the L405 is a better Range Rover, but am nostalgic over a L322. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Thank you all.

Have now upped my budget a little and have seen a rather nice 15 plate - so still not ULEZ - I'm now agonising over Smile What do I put here then?

I live just outside the Ulez, but don't cross it more than a couple of times, a month, sometimes more, but not worth me forking out a TON of extra money, for a cleaner diesel model, to cross ULEZ for free. I would suffer more depreciation, with a 'free entry' car, than I will save, just giving a dozen quid, to the Mayor's coffers every now and then. can't afford to have a petrol one either,... so I settled for a 2012 Westie. I never know what the next penalty will be for diesel motorists, so don't want a huge potential loss on my hands either.

Before I start I want to state that I just put up a "For Sale soon" advert on a 2014 L405 so some may say I am conflicted here!

Before the L405 I owned a 2011.5 L322 Vogue SE, and at one point I was running both so I can tell you that being able to jump out of one into the other enabled a close comparison.

I loved the L322 when I bought it at 2.5 years old, it was exactly the spec I wanted and it drove well once the bushes and drop links had all been refreshed. In fact the change to 255/55 20" Michelin's made a really significant improvement in "on road" ride. The significant negative versus the L405 was the feeling of weight, particularly in terms of brakes even though it had the large 6 pot Brembo's. Some parts of the L322 felt more substantial - like switches and buttons, and the heated/cooled seat controls were easier to access.

The L405 as it came to me rode worse than the well sorted L322 but in my opinion was a better vehicle out of the box. It was lighter (400kg's) and you can feel that when driving, and the technology is better in terms of navigation and the display integration and apart from the heated seats controls looked like a more modern interior to me. By the time I got the L405 (secondhand) I had driven the 2016 car which is coming to me soon. The 2016 car was an improvement to the 2014 car in terms of ride, once my 2014 car had new bushes and valve control box upgraded it was like the 2016 car to drive.

The L405 delivered better fuel economy, and the later technology and power tailgate, soft close doors and reclining rear seats were all considered positives not just by me but the rest of the family!

Both cars had the 4.4 V8 diesel which I have to say works fabulously as does the 8 speed box.

If I had to choose after extended ownership I think the L405 is the better car to live with. 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ
2014 (L405) VSE in Black with Ivory
2011 (L322) VSE in Black with Ivory
2005 (3.2 V6) Porsche Cayenne in Black with Savanna
1999 (P38) VSE in Burgundy (?) with Sand

I'm definitely swaying towards the L405.

Thanks. What do I put here then?

If it were me I suspect I would be regretting not going the extra mile for a 405 over a 322 at some point in the future.

(but never forget I could be construed as having a conflict of interest here!) 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ

2011 (L322) VSE in Black with Ivory

I think I'm with you, 160dmb.

An am waiting to see this "conflict of interest" post of yours Very Happy

... tell a lie, I just have.

There's no conflict with me as I want a black interior not the ivory. What do I put here then?
