England 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.2 SC V8 Zambezi Silver
Flat Bed Recovery truck Hire / Car Transportation ?

Hi all,

I'm looking to possibly hire a Flat Bed Recovery truck / Car Transporter to move a car from Nottingham to Herts - Its a small Alfa. Has anyone done this in the past? My license is pre 1987 although the rules have changed (not sure if that makes any difference now to be sure as the weight of both will be under 3.5t)

Just looking for recommends or "I did this..." ideas...

Thanks
Superspoons Gavin

Got a tow bar? If yes why not hire a car transporter trailer.

Probably about £80 for early one day to late next day.

That's from GT towing Wellham Green Herts.

No connection to them, just a web search, second up.

HTH Cheers
Richard

Thanks Richard - Yes, GT Towing is close by and I've hired from them before to take a Defender down to Sussex a few years back. I've looked into renting and its £80 for a day rental for a small one - I do have a tow bar.

I was thinking by the time I've added diesel there may not be much in it price wise so a Recovery truck may be the easier. Gavin

Looking at adverts most offer transportation at a £1 per mile. Have you asked some local recovery firms for a price…might be worth trying at bothe ends ie at collection end as well as near your home. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

Hi Richard, when I have done this is the past I have used one of the search engines (Anyvan and Shiply are the main ones). I also have a couple of numbers of people as a result so if you want I'm happy to share by pm so you can call them. Always check they have adequate insurance.

Cheers
Paul

Done it in the past mate. I'd go down the trailer route simply because of the costs. 3.5t beaver tail usually have restricted mileage on them do before you know it your paying the mileage costs, insurance is sky high, then they want a deposit etc.

We used Shiply to get a quote for transportation of a number of vehicles. Got some really competitive quotes and ended up with a guy who moves cars for dealerships

Worth trying to save hassle of hire and driving Thumbs Up

Without putting a negative on Shipley make sure who ever provides the transport has suitable insurance. I know a few people that used Shipley in the past and they either didn't get the car turn up or the transport had an accident and their car was wrecked but due too no insurance they had too foot the bill

If you have AA or RAC membership, can you not get it moved through that?

Last vehicle I had moved I used the local breakdown company and booked in a date at a good price as I know they’re insured and could check the reputation on the reviews

The breakdown services will only move/assist a broken down vehicle if it is road legal (& they do check before assisting). They are not in the business of re-locating vehicles.

There is a whole world of legal difference between recovery & relocation - insurance, drivers hours, tachograph's & so on.

Strange, AA quoted to move my old Land Rover which had been off the road a while. I went with a lower cost quote from the local 24hr recovery garage in Derby.
