Gearbox fault detected

My 68 reg P400e let me down last night. "Gearbox fault detected" came up on the dashboard and the car lost drive completely. I came to a halt, and was unable to move the car at all. I switched it off, locked it for 10 minutes and then restarted but the same fault came up.

I got a recovery truck to take the car to my dealer late last night and went there this morning to drop the key off. I started the car and was able to select Drive without any problem, and with no warning on the dashboard. As tempting as it would be to just take it home, I left it there for them to look at.

Anyone else experienced similar? 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

Just heard back from my dealer, where my car has been for the last few days.

I was told that they had good news, the car is fine, and just needed a "telematic control module" software update. It's a two day update and they have then carried out an extended road test (60 miles) and confirm that the car is ready for me to collect.

The car had a major service in September (48k / 3 year service) and I'm surprised that this update was not done then, but when I questioned this, I was told the update was only available in November.

I'd be interested in people's thoughts on this? Must admit to being concerned that such a thing could happen at all, and the prospect of it happening again. And on this occasion I was only 2 miles from home, so in that sense, I feel I was lucky. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

Ha! Your responses made me chuckle - have to agree.

At least it's working fine, and it didn't cost me anything. I was expecting "new gearbox" or something like that. Doesn't fill me with confidence though going forward. Hope it's just a one off. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB
