4.4 TDV8 odd worrying engine noise

Really need your help guys

Since I bought my 4.4 around 10 month ago I've always been aware of a faint noise most often heard from sat within the cabin around the pedal area. It is a noise directly RPM related and has a sort of rhythmic sound to it. I would describe it as a light Metallic tappett noise which is present in gear, in neutral, stationary and moving.

Recently I've noted the noise becoming more noticeable and much more harsh when revving the car in neutral. Makes the engine sound very rough. It's not really noticeable from outside of the car

I've negated things like the air con, radio etc, usual stuff. Definitely coming from the engine

Recently I've changed the alternator, belts, idlers tensioner and pulleys which made no difference. Car runs fine with no obvious issues at all but I am seriously becoming worried about this odd noise.

I'm thinking timing chain or lifters? But can't seem to find anyone who has had a similar problem

I know it's not great without audio of exactly what the noise is but any help would be appreciated

Mine's recurring harshness is caused by either the engine undertray filled with dried mud or the mount at the back of the transfer case being filled of dried mud or by both.
I have had a vibration caused by brake master cylinder pipelines vibrating against each other when a clip had become dislodged as well as engine heat shields vibrating.

I can’t be any help in diagnosing the fault I’m afraid but that would drive me nuts.

I hope you find it and that it’s nothing horrendous that’s causing it.

had you done any work before the noise started?

Sounds like when you drop a spanner/socket/nut/bolt into the abyss of an engine bay!

Have you been underneath with it running and had a poke around all the exhaust shrouds, there’s quite a lot of them also on the manifolds, if they do come loose or break off they do make a horrible noise.

No it's been like this since I've bought it. I've replaced alternator, belts pulleys idlers etc after they failed and hoped that might have cured it but no

I plan on doing that tomorrow once this million mile an hour wind dies down too. I love this car and just hope it isn't something terminal.

Thanks all for your help I appreciate it
