V8 Sound

The video below is the first to include some V8 engine noise. It sounds fairly muted unfortunately but not unexpectedly (similar to L405 non SVA models). It's a shame they don't tune in a little more woofle from the V8. The Bentayga V8 that regularly drives down my road sounds really nice and I wish they did the same with the RR. Not a shouty, popping RRS SVR type noise, just a nice deep and distant woofle would be good, like the Bentley.

Thanks for the link. I know what you mean about the sound.

By the way, the car in this video doesn't seem to have such a prominent silver strip below the rear number plate - is that due to one of the black / shadow packs? 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

Yes. This has the shadow pack option. So all the silver bits are grey.

Seems there will be regulations arriving shortly limiting the amount of sound a car can emit. Iā€™m pretty sure they are EU regs, which I expect the U.K. will follow Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

I know what you mean 5.0.

I owned the SV AB before and have the 5.0 now and neither have what I would describe as an amazing engine sound. Like you I am not after SVR aural antics but something a bit more meaty / soulful would be welcome.

May I ask what you have on order? Are you going to the PHEV or staying with the v8?

Particulate filters make everything sound worse.

I am staying with the V8 AB. I can't really see the point in the PHEV. When I do a long journey I don't want a car that's exhausted its batteries by the time I have got outside of the M25 and then I am left with only 400hp to lug a very heavy car around plus 200kg of batteries.

I will wait for the full electric and enjoy a last hurrah of V8 power Thumbs Up

Plus, I don't fancy being one of JLR's beta testers for the Ingenium PHEV.

It is a bit disappointing, I wouldn't judge it on that clip. You don't want a RR to be shouty, it's only at ideal and how it sounds inside is much more important that whether or not it impresses pedestrians.

I had the same engine in a 2017 750i, it has the optional M Sport Exhaust, but was pre GPF and thanks to both of those things sounded so much better than you'd expect, with no fakery inside either. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

It all depends on how they tune the exhaust. The 5.0 SC can sound great but they choose to make if quiet in the L405. I suspect they will do the same with the BMW V8 for the L460 AB. They may turn up the volume for a future warmer SV model which is doubtless coming at some point.

I downloaded my trips over the past year and 85% of my driving days were less than 50 miles, so I am giving the P510e a go. I hadn't thought about being a beta tester but now I am!

Anyhow here is another video of the v8 with some sound and revs.

Edit - 5.0 spotted (and heard) that this is in fact the inline 6 PHEV not the v8 as the video maker believed. Whatever you make of the sound the extra fuel flap shows this has to be a PHEV.

This is the Ingenium 6 engine noise.

If your journeys are mostly less than 50 miles then it makes a lot more sense.

The people who made that video think it is the v8 - the title of the video is:

2022 Land Rover Range Rover SV 530Hp V8 - The All New Luxury SUV King? Interior, Exterior, Sound

And in the description it says it is the v8, and in replying to comments the same thing.

Could be wrong of course!

It's definitely a straight six noise.

Plus the car has a filler flap on the nearside which shows it's PHEV.

You have eagle eyes and ears!

That extra fuel flap is conclusive. I will edit the above accordingly šŸ™‚

Am I the only one who hopes that the V8 is quieter?!
