Panic beginning to set in

I had a great 5.0L 322 in great condition - sold it to another member on here at a bargain price. Bought an L405 and paid top dollar for the spec I wanted but reading about the aluminium corrosion and other issues I wonder If I have made a mistake. Time will tell I suppose it is a much better vehicle for me (more luxury car than mud plugger) I don't think I've ever been off road and probably never will neither will I ever tow anything. The performance of the L322 was just bonkers but fun while I had it. Geoff

That would be the main reason for me to change - not having to worry about rust/corrosion.

Still love my L322, longest I’ve kept a car. In my 7th year now….

I’d love a panaramic roof and the top Meridian hifi, but it won’t be a cheap change….

England 2015 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

From my experience working on both models there’s no where near the corrosion problems on the l405 that the 322 had, that said they do suffer with bolt on corrosion, I.E brake pipes and ARC pipes with the tank saddle thrown in for good measure, but the main body seems better IMHO.
I’ve waxoyledl mine so hope it’s done the trick for longer life of parts mentioned above.

Steel can be cut out and good metal welded back into place

While a similar method with aluminium, its nowhere near as easy or simple to repair...

Red Merle - It’s where the rear subframe mounts to the body of the vehicle I believe from Mikey’s previous post.

Steel subframe, steel bolt and an aluminium body causing galvanic corrosion. I’d guess it’s not visible without dropping the subframe though.

Not saying they don’t as you have the evidence in the pic, but I work on these on a daily basis and have not seen one like you point out, (yet). But I will be taking a closer look at mine and a few others and report back if I find any.
By the way have you repaired that one and have pics of the repair?

It is indeed at the rear of the car, infront of the rear subframe, but hidden under the brace infront

Both sides were holed, and corrosion had also set in around all the main subframe mounts

We did not repair, we informed the customer who told us repair the original fault (leaky ARC pipes) and put it back together so he could trade the car in...

Being aluminium, I don't know how to even begin repairing that. And the floor pan is bonded together, not welded. Steel is easy to repair, alu, not so much Neutral

That was what I couldn’t figure out either.

It’s shaped and has the structural support in it.

Shame there’s no easy way to check it really I guess. I’ve been looking at the earlier L405’s recently but think I’ll stick to my problem child for a bit longer having seen some of the recent horror stories! 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

I can imagine a few DIY bodges stuffing the cavity around the mount bosses with reinforced glass fibre matting of some type and hiding the repair under bitumen under seal , but I can’t picture a quality type repair. ??

She hasn’t been in the sea at anytime has she ? Boat launching or a splash through salt water ? I have seen corrosion like this before on a friends RR Sport used for launching a jet ski 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
