After nearly a year of (mostly) trouble free ownership, 'Restricted Performance' has eventually caught up with me. Popped up on the display yesterday after 20 miles or so on motorway and B roads. No noticeable drop in performance, but to be on the safe side pulled over and plugged in my trusty IID Tool. The only engine related fault was 'water in fuel'. Could this be related to restricted performance? I cleared the fault and the car has been fine since. The 'water in fuel' has come up twice before, but only when splashing through moderately deep puddles - I put this down to a dodgy connection or sensor, which seems to be a common problem.

its probably water in the fuel filter...theres a release valve at the bottom or a better solution would be to replace the filter.. ... - .- -.

That fault came and went as it felt liike it on mine and gave restricted performance with no noticible effect. Cleared usualy after a restart.

As Stan says, worth changing the fuel filter

On mine checked the water drain and found none but changed the filter and cleaned up the housing connector for the sensor. Came back occaisionally until a change of sensor.

When I purchased my 3.6 TDV8 the seller advised of phantom fuel in warning messages and had a dealer bill to investigate. The dealer advised new filter housing was needed at big $$ and changed the filter. I got sick of the random messages pretty quickly and just unplugged the main filter housing plug. No more warnings and no errors. The WIF sensor is not a separate part. 2007 TDV8 VSE

It's quite common for the sensor to go bad I had to replace mine for the same reason.

The Restricted Performance message would pop up more and more frequently until finally it irritated me enough to buy a new sensor.

You can buy the sensor separately to the housing, although it seems to be a bit tricky to find. I got mine from Maltings. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

I´ve had this both on Disco 4 and RR 4.4 TDV8. The water in fuel sensor goes bad. Getting a new sensor with new fuel filter housing seems to be the remedy (they are sold under 1 part number).
