Snow Foam Query

I know there is loads of info and videos on the net, but I have a pressure washer with a detergent bottle attachment and am thinking about getting some fairly cheap snow foam to try it. Prefer to get the views of those that have used it….

Is it worth it? It looks like you spray it on, leave for a bit then wash as normal using wash mit etc as it’s the soap?

I normally just use soap and a bucket? Wondered if I was missing a trick…..

Thanks
Mark

The idea is to spray the snow foam on and leave it to dwell so that it softens and encapsulates some of the dirt/dust.

You then wash it off before going ahead and washing with your normal soap, 2 bucket method etc.

This way the snow foam has removed some of the contaminants on the surface before you contact wash (I.e. There are now less contaminants on the surface scratching the paint as you move the wash mitt over it)

When I first tried it I thought it was rubbish I was expecting it to miraculously bring the car to a showroom shine with a rinse. Then I spoke to my valet guy he asked me to rub my hand over my 4 weeks dirty car and feel the roughness. Idea is as above if you can lift as much of that gritty dirt off before you start rubbing a sponge over it you reduce the prospect of paint damage. It also helps increases the life of ceramic coats etc.

So even though I don’t see a difference I now foam it and spray the wheels with cleaner then make a cuppa before pressure washing it l off then I use a sponge. MY23 PHEV HSE

As everyone else has indicated, there is no magic "remove all dirt and grime" with snow foam, there is no replacement for a good contact wash.

However, it is a lot of fun, spraying your car with foam Thumbs Up .

I use it. I soak the car then leave it to fall and drag the dirt with it. Rinse the car then go at it with the mitt and a bucket of soapy water.

It's quite tedious washing something the size of a range rover so every little helps. I use mine on a 13hp pressure washer which is far too big for a foam gun really... It reminds me of the foam cannons they use to put out fires at the airport which at least brings some joy Laughing

You can tell I have too much time on my hands...

My preferred snow foam is the Bilt Hamber stuff. For a 1l bottle I put about 10mm of BH Surfex degreaser in, another 10-20mm of BH Snow Foam, and then a little bit of Meguiars Ultimate snow foam. The Meguiars stuff is pretty poor but is very, very foamy and it seems to help the two BH parts dwell for longer.

Snowfoam does help, it sticks to the car and the dirt giving it time to gently lift the dirt from the body or soften it's attachment at least. It does need to be applied with a proper snowfoam attachment though, air is mixed with the solution to foam rather than just soapy water that the detergent bottle would do.

I spray it on with the snowfoam attachment, leave it for a while, rinse off, then shampoo in the normal way, whatever is your preferred method.

Have a look at the video and it really does work as shown, the bodywork feels highly polished afterwards and it lasts a good 2 to 3 months. Watch the video (turn the sound off, the music is dreadful). BMW i3 Electric Car

I usually snow foam mine, but not always. As others have said, it does work and is a good pre-wash, gets loads of grime off if the car is really dirty. One thing though, if you're thinking of using it in the pressure washer detergent bottle, I don't think it will foam, you need a proper foam lance. Drives:

Well, as usual I ‘m at odds: Twisted Evil
I rinse the car with the pressure washer first, then apply diluted TFR from the onboard tank starting at the bottom working up, leave for 5 mins, rinse off, then apply snow foam (sno-foam applicator) and immediately start, top down, rubbing with two freshly machine-washed microfibre mitts, before a final 3rd rinse. The snow foam is a detergent, not a prewash, (that’s what the TFR is for). The mitts go straight back in the washing machine after, and don’t get reused.
No buckets involved, so no risk of picking up grit off the bottom of a bucket. Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Well I’ve ordered 10 litres of not too expensive snow foam, to see if I like the concept. I then looked at the instructions for the pressure washer I have to see it’s just a detergent additive bottle, for use on decking etc, not a foamer. I’ve thus ended up buying a snow foam lance, see how we go.

Did see some attachments that went straight on to a hosepipe but thought a pressure washer might foam better.

Not gonna wash the car till it’s all here 🤣….
