My L322 usually only does 8 miles a day; which is a round trip to the woods to let our black lab enjoy himself.
Even if you add some running around, we're still only talking about 5k miles per year as I'm been WFM for a couple of years. I do a 60 round trip to Norwich, or Kings Lynn every month where it gets up to speed and temperature.

I've had the L322 for 6 months and 2.5k miles now, and wondered it I should do a oil and filter change, or just wait and get it serviced annually. Cars I've over serviced in the past have been due to covering large mileages, so I'm not 100% what to do in this situation. AKA don't want to waste money.

I use the super diesel and haven't had any DPF naughtiness and 99% of my drives are open roads.

What would you do, or is it as simple as 'oil is cheaper than engines'? Encourage alternative fuels, use all the petrol!

I'd change the oil every 3 months if I used it like that. Even with a longer monthly run (and 60 miles is barley enough to guarantee a proper DPF regen) I'd expect DPF issues down the line. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Lol I do the dog run etc and do about 8k per year nearly all short journeys in Norfolk .

I currently go by the JLR Remote app (not available for your vehicle etc) which tells me when a service is due (oil dilution) and so far its about every 4 months.
I use the draper myself (its simple) for 2 of the services and yearly get a Indie to keep the warranty compliant.

I dont know what the difference is with the DPF position (architecture) between L322 and L405 4.4 V8 is, but I would think the fuel dilution would be similar, I just presume that the L322 did not have the technology/sensor's when built etc, to be able to capture assumed calculated fuel dilution rate as the MY18+ L405 can.

Your feeling of doing more than 1 oil change per year is valid, buy a 10L Draper there are plenty of threads on here on how to go about it. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

You can get all the oil dilution, DPF info etc via the GAP IID tool. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

It's in the live values for the engine. It's only a concern if you are doing high miles and stretching the service interval as it's dependent on DPF regen cycles which are mileage based intervals unless you have a fault. Worth monitoring the DPF regen count vs your miles every so often as if it's doing it too often (AFAIK 300 miles is the usual ) it indicates something wrong like overfueling or a DPF with too much ash load. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Cheers guys, whilst I don't think I'm going to do oil changes every 3 months/1200 miles, I'll defo do them at 6 monthly intervals. It may be tempting to get an oil analysis test done; if those are still a thing, to see if I really need to do it more often than that.

I am a fan of not grubbing around on the ground, so I already have a well used Sealey vacuum pump, albeit a meagre 5 litre one that I'll made do with for now.

Yeah its probably not the best car for local driving; yup yet one more reason to sell, but its been reliable (touch wood), so its rapidly becoming the devil I know.

I don't know where abouts in Naaaaaarrrfooolk Kot hails from, but in West Norfolk you regularly have to pull up the verges and banks on blind single lanes due to tractor season, horseboxes, or morons who think their car has an invulnerability shield.

Just change 5L every 3 months and the filter every year. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Every 6 months or more frequent if more than 7,500 miles covered.

Opie Oils are very affordable with correct spec oils.

I do a lot more than average miles and therefore oil service every 4-5 months. Short journeys make it even more important to change at least every 6 months.

Modern engine oils act as a contaminants filter and they no longer have a sole purpose of lubrication therefore, with short distance town driving, changing the oil regularly is just as important as high milers. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Yes, last lot I bought was the Mahle filter and Petronas correct spec oil. Cost £59.

I was always going with 6 monthly oil changes, but will look to swap some out at 3 months.

I got the Mahle filter on Ebay for under £10 and Smith & Allen oils for under £50.
