Turbo or something else?

[Hey!
when I drove the car on Saturday, the oil lamp warned and I had just bought oil because I had seen that there was a little too little in the engine.
So I stopped and filled up with engine oil, and then drove on.
I reflected that it sounded like a pressure pipe to the intercooler was leaking but the charging pressure worked as it should and I went on.

10km before I was home, the car went down in safe mode and I drove the last bit home.

Took the tow truck to work and released the right hose to the intercooler and a lot of oil ran out so I guess I have to change the turbo.

It feels like it went so fast from there was nothing wrong until the turbo broke, could it be something else that made it like this do you think?[/i]

What car is it?
please define a lot of oil?

depending on the car if a turbo seal had gone you would expect to see lots of smoke out the tailpipe. but to get a decent response please let us know what year make model of car you are driving. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

It is an RR L405 sdv8 - 2014!

First there was no smoke at all, then when we started the car after about 5 hours, white smoke came from the exhaust pipe. Quite a lot of smoke and it is a typical sign of turbo problems, but I wonder why it did not come from the beginning when I started to hear noise and when the car went into safe mode?

Admittedly, it takes a while for oil to drain down and be burned, so the explanation may be logical and simple.

The car had been parked 7 days before this and when used before no noise or smoke was noticeable

White smoke normally indicates Water (Normally condensation built up in the exhaust)
Blue / Black smoke normally indicates Oil
If the mil is on it could be something as simple as a split boost hose, these will all need inspection there are plenty of threads on here.
it is very rare to have turbo failure on these cars
can you describe the noise?

A whooshing or whistle kind of noise would also indicate a split in the induction hoses. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current
