Latest tried and tested rubber button cleaning advice?

I've checked around and researched various cleaning possibilities for the "sticky" rubber buttons all over the car. Some solutions work ok and some have had disastrous consequences which I've embarrassingly tried to repair and failed.

So what is the best cleaning solution to use trying to get rid of the deteriorating rubber button finish and how can you peel it off safely without scratching the surface. Tiny bits of lint just stick to it and it looks awful.

And any idea how I can repair or replace the heated steering wheel logo I've destroyed in my cleaning attempts. I believe there are manufacturers out there that will provide a set of adhesive stickers but I dont need them all and it might stop the light shining through from the back. I did toy with the idea of replacing both control "pods" with the new 2018 digital versions but they look a bit hit and miss as to their functionality.

Can't help cleaning them up but I follow Mat Armstrong on YouTube and he recently replaced / upgraded his buttons on his L405

Go to 13 minutes 36 seconds in this video -

There is a subsequent video in the serious where he reads the instructions Rolling Eyes and then they work Thumbs Up

Hope that helps. Gavin

I had a very similar situation in one of my L405s, best thing I found was a very damp antibac wipe and gently keep wiping off the rubber coating (almost peeling it off), its not quick nor easy and quite scary. It's the failure of the rubber coating which starts to degrade over time, I also have same issue on my Ferrari and they are renown for it, just for fun search Ferrari sticky buttons, and think yourself lucky!!. Once the rubber coating is off then its just the button with the white image, but in time the button will need to be replaced but what it does do is remove the sticky stuff which should last a few years.

The alternative is pinch you wifes makeup remover wipes, Neutrogena will remove all the coating as well a bit quicker and easier.

Ultimately probably best solution is either change for new buttons, which I did or change to the haptic buttons which will last a lifetime.

Good luck Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

One quick point to make... The gesture volume function does not work on the Chinese switchpacks! Rolling Eyes

Thank you all. After making matters much much worse myself. (embarrassed) I opted to swop them out with the Chinese switch packs from a reputable uk supplier. Yes they don't have the gesture feature but I couldn't justify over £800 on such a frivolous thing. This version does everything its supposed to with no bugs and of course looks neater especially as I upgraded the head unit and ac panel too.

Where you twiddle your finger around in a circle ⭕️ in front of the left switchpack and the volume increases or decreases which ever way you turn your finger…

Bit like Harry Potter Stan, but without the wand! Ohh err missus!
