Passenger Cam cover replacement

Hi all. Just started the job of replacing the passenger side cam cover since a crack was diagnosed following limp mode on occasion (but no EML?).

Taking my time so as not to terrify myself and taking loads of photos. Have been following another thread which excellently details replacing EGR valves - this has been really helpful in getting the first layer of 'stuff' out of the way but I have already uncovered something confusing:



I have found this which wasn't plugged in to anything which has had me searching for ages - but I note the green plugs in the ends of the connector - does this mean that this has never been plugged in as my car is missing certain options? I can't for the life of me find the male end that it should go into.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Quite a few empty connectors around, you are right, it is for something you don't have... just ignore it, good luck with the rocker cover... Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks for you feedback, reassuring to have it confirmed - I have managed to get the 'plug' out so the female connector is attached to the main loom (and replaced). It is clearly a blanking plug!

Will update on progress

Unattached vacuum pipe

Hi again,
I have discovered this pipe which wasn't attached to anything. I'm sure it isn't the vacuum pipe for the cam cover on the driver's side as this (and the passenger side) appear to have heat shielded pipes already attached - although drivers side is a Censored to see!









I'm positive I haven't disconnected it and I'm keen to ID it before I go on otherwise I'll be in a muddle when putting it back. I can't for the life of me find anywhere to plug it in.

Any one out there know where it belongs?

I believe that goes to the vacuum unit on the rear of the cam cover that controls the inlet flap things, I’ve just done my cam cover seals today and looks familiar 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE

I would be interested to hear any tips on doing the seals, my passenger side seal has been on the to-do list for a few months now but I keep putting it off as too hard for a small leak. I have got parts ready but need some inspiration 2007 TDV8 VSE

Passenger side is the easiest, assuming you drive on the same side as us, just be careful and take your time and double check everything, plugs as there are a lot of them, be careful with the vacuum lines as they get brittle and easy to break.
I took the opportunity to clean up as much as I could while everything was off.
With the cam covers off when you put the new seal on, place all the bolts in as this will help keep it in place when you go to refit it, and make note of what bolt went where as there are two types on the cam covers.
The passenger side engine mount is easy to do with enough extensions and a wobble joint to get the angle for the bolt to undo so you can lift the engine to get to the injector nearest the cabin as it won’t come out otherwise
Also do the drivers side one as you don’t want to be removing the plugs and inlet manifold again to do it another time as it’s a pig to do 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE

Thanks for that, I only need to do the N/S, the O/S was done by the previous owner, it's noted on the invoice that the nearside had a small leak and they re-torqued the bolts and advised to monitor but did not change the gasket. Did your injectors come out easily without a puller? 2007 TDV8 VSE

No, I was fortunate that they all came out, 1 was a bit stubborn but after an hour it came out 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE
