United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Barolo Black
Mirror lcd breaks when headlights switched on.

I recently replaced the wing mirrors on my rangey (2003 vogue 4.4 vCool, to chrome ones off an HSE, i did not notice at the time, but the LCD broke on my rearview mirror and ended up filled with bubbles. I replaced the mirror with one from ebay and all was fine. that evening after starting up, I switched the headlights on and the rearview mirror instantly did the same again and is now filled with bubbles. The tint on the passenger wing mirror started darkening to the point that nothing was visible in it and it appears to be delaminating from the top edge downwards. the drivers side is not a dimming one, so do not know if it is affected, but assume it most likely is.
Has anyone heard of this before or have any ideas?

The old mirrors did not have puddle lights, but the new ones do, could this possibly be part of the issue as I do not know if they come on with the headlights, or only when the door is opened, or a combination of the two

I’m guessing the HSE mirror glass is not auto dimming and the ones on your car are. There is a sensor in the mirror that detects a light behind the car and dims the 3 mirrors if it’s dark. The wiring will be different for each I would imagine.

Not sure of the exact wiring or if you can interchange the units….

The mirror glass is about £100 more if you want the dimming ones.

Maybe controller in central mirror is damaged and gives too big voltage to side mirros and destroys liquid crystal layer.
