44°c and funny airconditioning, heeeeelp

it's freaking hot in France and my aircon is working fine and cold while stationary, BUT STOPS PRODUCING COLD AIR WHEN DRIVING.....cleaned the sensor in the center panel, had gazzz refilled and checked, pump works.... right side is producing warmer air as left side while stationary and both sides do warm air when driving...as usual garage hasn't got a clue and there are no faults on the GAP. Anyone on here with a bright idea HELP PLEASE WE'RE MELTING Bow down Bow down

enjoy summer

Robert

Silly question, but have you got the recirculation on when using the Aircon? If you don't, it draws the air from the outside where as recirculation does just that with the cold air in the car. Just a thought.

Air temperature will be similar whether moving or not, it's likely to be a restriction in the filter-drier not allowing the correct pressure differential to develop at engine speed above tickover. You need to be looking at the high side & low side pressure values at around 2000 rpm held for 60 seconds for a proper chance at diagnosis though. Outside possibility is compressor vanes worn due to lack of lubrication. In any case, you need to find an aircon 'specialist' not just some tyre-monkey or filter-spinner that knows how the 'aircon machine' works. They cost more, but you only need to visit them once - you've already wasted money on a degas-regas which whoever did the job should've recognised that the symptoms indicated that the refrigerant charge was not the cause.

Thank you both for the reply. Yes I tried the recirculation to no avail. The "regasser" is a specialist, but hey I'm living in France.... They checked the pressure, and when picking up the car I checked the airflow standing stil and that was good. I did not have the time to let them search for the reason of the difference between left and right. Drive up to Amsterdam was planned, so we had a surprisingly hot drive (yes I can also imagine other hot drives;-)

When back I'll have an other "specialist" look into the problem, but thought in the meanwhile someone on here might come up with a similar experience or whatever...

Side-to-side temperature differential is due to low flow through the evaporator, again, pointing to a restriction rather than a system charge or (most of the time) compressor issue. At ~40 Deg. C the high side should be 180-225 psi and the low side 25-35 psi. Sometimes if the high side is in excess of that, improperly trained tech's assume that the A/C is working 'really well'...

If the 'specialist' is not using a contact digital thermometer, IR thermometer or FLIR to check the refrigerant flow (or lack of) and identify areas of concern, then they're not interested in doing the job properly and most likely using the 'if it does this, it's always that' diagnosis method.
