Exhaust Sensor - Or at least the bit the sensor screws into!

Help needed - possibly from someone in the Lancashire area (Blackburn, Preston, Burnley, etc..)?

My local specialist has been trying to resolve a "DPF full" message and has found (amongst other things) a faulty sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 2).

Unfortunately, whilst removing the sensor, the sensor "bolt head" has snapped off, leaving the sensor body in situ in the exhaust. These things happen so I'm happy to accept it and try and find a resolution.

One idea he has had - is to drill another hole in the exhaust (within a couple of inches of the existing broken, redundant and irremovable sensor) and weld in a replacement "female adapter" that will take the new sensor. The issue is finding a "female adapter" that we can weld in.

So - to the "ask". Does anyone locally (East Lancs) have an old L322 exhaust lying around that I could take a section from to include the "female" adapter?

The sensor is on the exhaust Y section where the 2 downpipes come together on the driver's side. I "think" the adapter / sensor thread is M12 with a 1.25 pitch.

I'm not entirely sure if its relevant but my car is a 2011 4.4TDV8.

Failing that, any other ideas would be very gratefully received!

Thanks!

Thanks Mike,

The diagram is really useful - I hadn't fully understood the position of the sensor. Something tells me the actual position of this one makes it difficult to access to drill it out / re-tap it - but I'll double check. Cheers!

Oggy - sometimes the simplest ideas are the best! Iā€™m not sure if the sensor needs to seal against something?

hi it looks like fig 3 is shorter than fig 4 i would measure the size of the offset i would say that it makes the sensor sit in the middle of the exhaust . if it needs a seal and is not tapered fit . you could use a dowty washer for the seal . i would weld the 12mm nut on to a say 14mm washer first so you get a good seal around the hex nut then it makes it a lot better to weld the washer on to the exhaust pipe with the mig welder new vehicle purchase

I'm loving the creative approach! Thanks. The mechanic isn't back until Monday but I can check the measurements then (when it's back on the ramp) and discuss whether this is feasible. I'll let you know. Thanks again!

Drew a blank with this - the eBay seller has replied and said they don't manufacture them in the size I need. Thanks again. Great suggestion.

If he has a welder why not weld a nut to what's left of the original sensor, the heat usually breaks the seal and you can unscrew it with the nut you welded on... done it loads of time to all sorts and it usually works... Thumbs Up Pete
