CarPlay

Given that my Sat Nav has packed up - maybe the aerial. Is it time I upgraded to CarPlay and hence use Waze for my Navigation I have started a dialogue with Unique Audio Designs and it seems this is the simplest option - it also just uses the GPS in my phone https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/wireless-a...port-l494/

Has anyone used them, my son has just had his Audi RS4 upgraded with a similar system and is very pleased, Boris permitting I will get a closer look over Christmas. Geoff

Right, I'll sit on my hands for the time being, I'll have a look what my lads looks like in his Audi. Interestingly the Sat Nav in a 2014 Audi is no better than the much maligned Sat Nav in a FF of the same age. However, they did have to stick on a film to get touch screen functionality although we already have it he (son) says he prefers to use the Audi MMI joystick thingy to select stuff.

I've also asked them if they can recommend a local fitter, I am more than capable of messing up the simplest of things although I have to say the video makes it look really simple.

If I get impatient I'll just get one anyway Very Happy Geoff

Now I've had the other thread pointed out to me I'll use that, but just to respond to Craig - sometime next year I'll need a service, MOT, some bits doing a gearbox oil change and just maybe a CarPlay upgrade and I reckon holidays abroad will still not be straightforward so a week in the Cotswolds doesn't seem such a bad idea. Geoff

Like Craig say - it does work.
However, my son is very disappointed with the Android Auto version, the top few lines of the display are missing and there is an intermittent crackle on the audio (I have heard it). The response when he complained was "well most people have the CarPlay version, the manufacturer confirmed that Android Auto version is not as good". So I suspect getting a refund will be just too difficult and the 600 quid will have to be written off to experience.

So it looks like happy to sell it to you but not happy to sort out any after sales problems and refer you to the manufacturer. Shame really as I was looking forward to getting one. Geoff

mmmmm. I wonder what part of Audi RS4 they didn't understand - particularly as they fitted it. I only offer my opinion up as a caveat emptor. I'll be steering clear, 600 quid on the off chance it might be better in my Range Rover, 600 quid on the off chance that their after sales might be better.

However, even though mine will be CarPlay which they say is better I'll still be giving it a miss.

I'm obviously happy to hear real life experiences. Geoff

Guys, just to give you a quick update… The CarPlay system mated to the RR system is fantastic, I’m very happy BUT! I do have a small concern I want to speak to their tech team about before I move forward with further updates? I hope that makes sense?

The company is closed over the holiday period so I won’t get any further forward with this until the 4th Jan at the earliest…
