Offside sidestep removal

Hi,

Does anyone have any helpful tips or tricks for loosening the bolts that secure the offside side step to the chassis? The nearside is easy enough, but I can't get access to the bolt heads with a socket set due to the air tank, and the heads are starting to round from corrosion.

My next though is a set of mole grips, but I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions before really damaging the heads.

Cheers,

Tom

You can remove the air tank very easily. It's only 3 bolts and you don't need to disconnect the air line.

For the amount of time it takes then it might make life easier to get a 6 sided socket on the bolts.

You might find if you hammer the brackets upwards they will move far enough to let the bolt heads pop out through the holes.
The bolts are through a keyhole shape, narrow end at the top.
Worked for me but l was scrapping the steps anyway. Thumbs Up

I've just reinstalled my steps and used a very thin 10mm ratchet spanner up there by the air tanks. Took a little time - I wasn't aware the air tank came off without needing to unplug any lines so that's good info Dave Thumbs Up Gavin

Thanks for the suggestions Gents. I’ll take another look at the weekend.

The side steps have corroded away to nothing, so they’ll be getting scrapped but I would like the ability to fit new ones or deployable ones in the future so don’t want to screw up the mounting points.

Ended up undoing the 12 mm bolts and going to town with a hammer.

The other side took a total of 3 minutes.
