I had the car serviced at a decent indi back in March and the service notification was re-set. About 4 months later and only 4k later, the car is saying it needs another service. Has anyone come across this before?

The DPF sensor was a problem, but this has been fixed a while ago and the DPF regenerates properly now - so I don't believe the problem is oil dilution.

The car is driven steadily, and mostly on motorways, and I can't think of what else could be causing this. It has happened before, when the service notfication came up very soon, though that was when I still had the issue with sensors.

Every time there is a normal active regeneration or if you do a forced regeneration, there is always some oil dilution. The service countdown mileage is adjusted accordingly by the algorithm.

With the 4.4V8 to minimise Active Regenerations. You need to achieve DPF temperature above 250C to maintain passive regeneration that in turn, needs speeds above 63mph but at that speed/temperature, you are just about burning soot, as much as you are producing. At 70mph you can see the soot % dropping gradually. My journeys are on roads where speed limit is 60mph and under so rarely see Passive Regeneration.

I now do at lest 3 to 4 oil changes per year, when the dash/Incontrol app tells me its time. Average 2500 to 3000 miles between oil changes. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Kot - Quite a lot of my driving is 70mph+ and I do 12k/year, and since the EGR-A replacement all the regenerations seem to be operating normally. Oil changes every 2500 to 3000 miles seems excessive when the oil is the spec (and cost) that it is. Current:

But how do you know the oil is in spec? its not expensive in the big scheme of things, and easy to change yourself with a vacuum pump.
You would need to test the oil to know that its out of spec if you dont believe what the messages tell you.

Or you could just ignore it but running an engine with potential fuel dilution not good for bearings, cylinder lubrication break down then rings failing etc etc
