IID tool use

Can I just ask those in know the following.

I have the Gap IID tool that is registered to my L405 and it works perfectly.
However I wanted to see if it would read the faults on a friends L332.
I plugged it in and it recognises the tool but won’t get past the “turn ignition on” point and it won’t communicate with the L322.
Is this because the tool is locked to my car or it because of an error with my friends L322 that means it won’t communicate with the tool.

Thanks in advance. 2008 RRS HST - loved the car from 6 months old until a few years old
2009 Disco HSE - nice and practical alternative when I needed the space.
VW T5 Transporter - mid life crisis perhaps
2017 FFRR 4.4AB - best car I’ve ever owned

You need to buy a license for every car. When you buy it comes with one… if you want to buy another it takes seconds and it’s still cheaper than your friend visiting a dealer or independent to have the codes read.
My brothers car was added to mine for about £60 but I think it’s more nowadays….

Thanks for the reply, didn’t realise you could have the device registered to multiple vehicles. 2008 RRS HST - loved the car from 6 months old until a few years old

Unless things have changed, an IID locked to 1 vin is capable of reading faults of other vehivles woithout having to but additional licenses.

It won't be able to adjust any values, change config sttings on the other car - I think it mihght be possible to clear fault codes but not 100% sure on that.

I know i have read the fault codes from a mates Disco with mine in the past even though it doesnt have a license for that. Ash

My Gap tool has read & cleared faults on two other L322 vehicles both were 2006/7 Tdv8. Also reads live data such as gearbox temp & reset service light. Won’t change ccf or calibrate suspension etc. hope this helps.

Thanks for the answers, I’m going to plug my tool into another mates L322 this weekend to see if it connects to it.
That way I’ll know if there’s an issue with the cars ability to talk to the reader or if it’s the readers ability to talk to other cars. 2008 RRS HST - loved the car from 6 months old until a few years old

Daz,

Just seen your profile. If you still have your disco as well you could try it in that? Ash

No all the other vehicles have long since gone.
The only other horses in my stable are Audis (2019 TT & 2020 Q2) so no use I’m afraid. 2008 RRS HST - loved the car from 6 months old until a few years old

Thanks for all the advice. Found another mates Freelander and it had no problems both reading and deleting the error codes.
I guess matey L322 has a communication error somewhere and won’t talk to me reader. 2008 RRS HST - loved the car from 6 months old until a few years old
