New L322 owner

After being a long time admirer I finally took the plunge and purchased an L322 last week. MY11 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue with 99k miles in Santorini Black with a Jet/Ivory interior.

It has an uninterrupted service history featuring a mix of main dealer stamps plus some independents but it’s a little lacking in detail. There’s nothing obviously wrong with it but I’ve booked in with a specialist for a full health check just to be sure. Fingers crossed I don’t get any nasty surprises.

Looking forward to FFRR ownership!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I’m booked in with Glenrands today, largely based on your recommendation here DrRob. Their location doesn’t look super convenient if you need to leave the car with them but I figured I’d cross that bridge later.

Don't be too alarmed if they come back with a long list if issues as it doesn't necessarily mean you have made a bad purchase. They all need a list of things doing but most of the time you can carry on with may of them as advisories. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Yep. Same happened to me. I just worked my way through the priority. On Ben's 3.6 they spotted a grossly inadequate intake manifold repair with Araldite that he missed on inspection... Thumbs Up 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Well it's been an interesting 48h...

The team at Glenrands did a very thorough job at a very reasonable price, I just wish the outcome had been better. The list of problems was practically endless, but here are some of the highlights:

Drive belt needs replacing
Prop shaft needs replacing
Rear lower control arms need replacing
Rear drop links need replacing
Subframe has been cut and welded horribly
Engine wiring loom has signs of fire, most of loom damaged and badly repaired

I was expecting the car to need some work, but those last two items were a step too far for my liking. Thankfully I bought the car from a dealer and was able to exercise my right to reject and received a full refund.

I'm a couple of hundred quid out of pocket, but on the flip side I did enjoy the FFRR experience for a week and a half.

The search continues!

Eek!
Just goes to show how a decent independent specialist is worth their weight in gold as part of a pre purchase or recent purchase...good job it was from a dealer Bow down
The fire damage and bodged sub frame sound bad Big Cry
I’d recommend keeping an eye on the For Sale section on here Thumbs Up 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Very sad to read the outcome NJ, but yes, as Rob says, they found an issue and sorted it for me. Would happily recommend them but seems like you realised they were sensible.

My advice, like Rob's is to keep an eye on the for sale section on here. Also come along to our random monthly meets usually at a decent Hampshire pub and talk all things RR.

Wasn't expecting that Shocked but just goes to show the wisdom of getting a proper inspection straight after purchase. Who out there would have really spotted a welded subframe and burnt loom when doing their own lookover at a dealer?
You may have lost a few £100 but you have saved £1000's not to mention the possible consequences of a subframe breaking while driving.... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Ouch. As someone who is in the market for a 4.4 L322 at the moment, that has scared me a bit! I’d be interested to know the reg to make sure I don’t buy it! Shocked

Don’t let this put you off as most of the time the issues on the 4.4 are ‘peripheral’ but do make sure you get it inspected by a specialist soon after purchase and have a descent size contingency fund for maintenance, fixes and repairs. Just because you get a vehicle with no major issues doesn’t mean it’s going to be cheap to run or trouble free. Prices for the late L322’s are starting to drop and there seems to be a few more about so odds on you can get a good un! 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
