Rear Camera: Stopped working, dried out, TSB upgrade

My rear camera failed last night after snow/sleet/rain all day.

The GAP IIDTOOL showed a fault.

I cleared the fault several times and the picture came back, but green.

I removed the camera and took it apart. There was no water inside the camera body, but instead only in the lens.

I put the lens body in a Tupperware container and set my wife’s hair dryer to blow warm hot air on it for an hour.

Then I completed the TSB upgrade I found on an Evoque forum. The TSB drills two holes in the camera bracket to allow water to drain from the housing rather than submerge the camera and letting moisture deep into the lens. Apparently, 2016+ vehicles have two holes from the factory. These two pictures are from an Evoque and opposite the FFRR.

I didn’t get it all done until after dark, but the results speak for themselves. Crisp and clear in the red glow of the rear lights.

Saved $300-$600 CAD 🥰 Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8
