Any Photography Enthusiasts?

Simple request……. I’m looking at getting a tablet principally for web browsing, but also one which I can use for photo editing, probably using an adobe photoshop app. Any recommendations? Budget is up to £1000.

Cheers

Andy

I'm sure jmc on here is an expert on photography, he's the man to ask and I think even Stan is too from what bits I've read.

High praise Barmybrummie, but 'expert' may be going a bit far..... Whistle

I almost responded to this thread yesterday, but deleted before posting - reason is it's got little to do with photography at any level. It's more a question about tablets.

My experience there goes as far as the occasional Paracetamol. Wink The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Ah jmc I mentioned you as I've seen some of the stunning pictures you've taken and not only that, the back of your fatty resembles a mobile Jessops lol. But tablet photo editing I thought you might have some knowledge about. But to be honest, I think there's a fair few editing apps about that do a better job than paid for apps.

Sorry Stan, my mistake.

If it was me wanting to use Adobe Photoshop, then I would be looking for a fair bit of power, min Core i5, 8gb ram as a minimum, storage to suit yourself.

Personally, I would buy a Microsoft Surface with a keyboard and a pen. They can be a bit costly but £1000 would easily cover your needs.

Another vote here for an iPad Pro.

I’ve got a 12.9” one with the Smart Cover and Apple Pencil. Would easily do what you require I believe.

If you’ve got an Apple Store near you, go and have a chat with the sales team and explain what you’re looking for. They’re very good and won’t sell you something that won’t do what you want.

Don’t forget that you may want to examine your photos in great detail so I’d suggest getting the largest and highest resolution screen that you can. A quality monitor would use up your entire budget so maybe look at refurbished MacBook at Apple Store?

I use a MacBook Pro 2018 13" screen with i5 2.3Ghz quad core and 16GB of RAM and it handles photoshop well, the screen size could do with being bigger when editing. If you must have a tablet, I'd be going for the biggest screen iPad Pro I can manage which will be a similar performance to my Mac First time FFRR owner

Thanks All for your replies.

The reason I’m thinking a tablet is it would be more portable than a laptop, so would easily fit into my camera bag with the rest of my kit.

I work about 100 yards from the big Apple store on Regent Street, so I’ll pop along there and investigate an Ipad pro.

I'm also a bit blinkered when in comes to tech and I guess I'm what the unkind would refer to as an Apple Fanboy but although I have an iPhone but I bought SWMBO a cheaper alternative (Android based) I struggle a bit with it but generally get there in the end but its not as simple as photos on Apple, all my gear is synchronised, iPhone, iPad, iMac, Apple TV like I said a Fanboy after years of being forced to have Windows by my employers.

So I would also go iPad Pro but like I say I'm biased. Rolling with laughter Geoff

I used to do a fair amount of photography work (tailed off a lot since COVID Sad ).

When out on a shoot/out in the field/or just travelling "light" then I had a MacBook/MacBook air with me that I could use to quickly do any on-the-fly edits/views etc.

However for most of my workflow back at home, I have a Dell laptop with 32gb ram 2TB SSD running twin HD monitors. I find when using Lightroom/Photoshop that you need the processing grunt and memory that you really can't get with a tablet.
The Dell is now about 3 years old, before that I had a MacBook Pro - again maxed with memory and external SSD drives for storage etc.

Can't speak for the new M series Macs, but do hear good things about them. Current
