Hi, i am trying to find out where to buy one of these, found some older threads but the links in them dont work......Is this still a good thing to do ( Can you simply remove the thermostat instead bearing in mind the likely useage and temperatures here in the SE of England..?)

Hi, not a specific problem, had read this was a good modification to do, as teh engine runs very hot as standard.......

I think you will find that applies to the BMW M62 4.4 PETROL V8 in 2002-5 fatties, not the diesel, diesels run too cold if anything...!!  Pete

Pete is right, I had the temp mod ( lowered to 88 degs ) on my petrol V8 BMW engine 2004 - and it worked wonders, one of the best mods ever - still running today and reccommned this to everyone who has the BMW M62 engine

You've got a 4.4 TDV8.

I'd be minded to say if it's not broken, don't fix it, and you're potentially opening yourself to problems, with the ECU reading the engine is too cold and trying to compensate.

Yes, the fuel burning heater is needed to get the TDV8 warm faster, don’t go cooling it down. As Pete says, what you have read is for the petrol 4.4.
