On the D4 there is a similar problem. Ice buildup in the intercooler may occur and then release and destroy the turbo. For nordic markets there is a "winter kit" consisting of a vehicle front (radiator cover) without openings that should lower the probability for ice buildup. One simply shifts from the original and back autumn and spring. The function is similar to the old days radiator curtain blocking ice and snow in the ambient air from entering the radiators. The D3 had another air inlet design and was not prone to this.

Let us know if the problem come back again or not. I also open once per year lower hoses to ensure there is no oil. Still just couple drops of oil only, so that is fine. |

Interesting that it’s a known issue on the D4. I don’t know how the turbo system in TDV6/SDV6 operates, but there may be some similarities. I’ll try to find out if it’s a «winter package» for the TDV8.

On a side note, I can explain why there is no winter kit for L405:s. I bought one and it turns out that the radiator is encapsulated and the front inlet has electronically controlled fins.

I can't find any "winter package" for the L322. @Dartanjang do you have a part-number for the D4 kit? 2012 Range Rover TDV8 4.4 |

It might not be needed. This was not a problem for the D3. They changed the design of the air inlet system on the D4 and perhaps didn't calculate with ice buildup in cold climates when doing it. Therefore this was a D4 only problem at the time.
