850 miles would be just possible on a single tank if that was your actual mpg. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

For the OP, If you go into this worrying about MPG and thinking that you will get 40mpg then you will be disappointed, looking at real world calculated brim to brim MPG my experience over several cars and loads of miles is that the L322 4.4 is about 10% better than the 3.6 and the L405 4.4 is about 10% better again. None of mine have ever approached 40 mpg over a full tank, I can easily create a 40+ mpg figure on the computer but rarely have I ever seen more than 27 mpg on a tank full (even my 405), a few cold starts and a couple of traffic jams shatter any dreams of 40mpg.
Best just top it up before it gets too empty then you can convince yourself it's not that expensive to feed!

I'm currently getting just over 30mpg on average and I do mostly M-Way driving at very sensible speeds. This is calculated from fill vs trip miles. It's doing a bit less than usual at present due to the cold weather ( always a factor with any cars MPG) and also a leaky thermostat so hope to see this improve bit when it's fixed next week. I did squeeze 750 miles from a tank once in the warmer months when I was just M-Way cruising and the low fuel warning had only just lit up - do the maths if you want but this is very good but not quite 40mpg..... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Over the 9,795 miles I’ve had the car doing a right mix of journeys, my actual calculations show an average of 25.5. My last tank was 26.3, much improved from the 24.4 of the previous tank which I put down to realising the tyres were under inflated. Since getting them back to normal pressures the mpg has improved.
