INTERMITTANT NON STARTING /CLICKING ON L405

Has anyone had any intermittant starting problems with their L405, I get in press the brake and push the button and it just clicks, then repoeat and it starts, or sometimes i switch off and switch on and it starts.
Other times its fine.
Its got new batteries in both car Main and Auxilliary and in fobs.
Is it a diagnostics job.
Its a 2013 with only 60000 miles and if I was to list on here what the barsteward has cost me over the last five years it would make a hard man crumble
Thanks

Classic starter motor symptoms … the click is the solenoid throwing the motor’s dog tooth forward onto the flywheel … but then not turning. When it throws forward, the motor also closes over the contacts that complete the circuit to make the motor spin.

The motor not spinning could be things like the motor itself worn out.
The solenoid is worn/tired and not throwing the dog tooth dar enough forward for the contact circuit to be closed.
The dog tooth is not meshing with the fly wheel properly and so preventing the tooth going far enough forward to both engage and close the circuit to spin. A worn out dog tooth could be the case. V8 or else ...

First thing to do is check the two batteries (if you have two) one may have failed and the other maybe backing it up but is failing as well... FYI the jump start post under the bonnet only gives voltage for the main battery...

Just a free check before shelling out on a (probably at fault) starter... Thumbs Up Pete

It sounds exactly like the problem my 2012 322 had. It was cured by replacing the starter motor. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Had this on an L322, you might not need a new starter, the click means the solenoid is moving but the contacts may be covered in carbon buildup. You can clean them up to be good as new as they are pure copper. I did this and had many many miles more motoring with no issues

Funny enough mine did this once, I actually called the RAC as I suspected the battery- anyhow while waiting for him to arrive I was idling my time away and for some reason just tried it again BINGO started no drama at all, maybe just one of those things Geoff
