Independent inspection

I have intimidated twice to a dealership that I would want to take a particular L322 for an independent inspection before I decide to buy or not, but there is quite a lot of reluctance from the dealership for me to do this. They say that they have checked everything so sort of suggesting no need?

I am not happy with this.

Walk away is my gut reaction…….

Your thoughts would be appreciated

Asking for this means you don't trust the dealer. You have protection under consumer law when buying from a dealer so the onus is on them to make sure the car is fit for purpose and without serious defects and gone are the days of 'sold as seen'. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Indeed. At this stage I don't trust the dealer. At this stage I don't think I should buy from the this dealer. I have visited twice, and both times the car has had a flat battery, thus preventing a half decent look, let alone a test drive.....

My first thought was "stuff them I'd go somewhere else" but then I thought if it was the other way around and I was selling a car would I be happy to let a stranger take it away to wherever for however long they want and let someone do whatever they want to it. No chance
As others have said that's the advantage of buying from a dealer, you have some protection

It wouldn't be for 'as long as I want'.....

An hour at best.

But if a dealership isn't confident of what they are selling, they should get the car into such a condition so that they are.

If I was a dealer I wouldn't let it out of my sight until it was paid for in full. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

There are lots of mobile vehicle inspection people out there, including the AA...

Can't see a dealer complain if it is done at their premises...

If they won't accept an inspection I'd look elsewhere... Thumbs Up Pete

It's a risk buying any car >10 years old and more so with a RR. In the end you just have to look at as many as possible, make a decision and trust in your rights as a consumer if there is anything seriously wrong. I'd not buy something too far away so if you have to take it back it's not major hassle. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

A specialist might travel to the dealer and inspect the car there for you with the dealer's agreement.
A flat battery on 2 visits suggests that a new battery is required, so why would the dealer not just change it?

It may be a parasitic drain they can't or can't be bothered to find and / or a new battery will cut into profit margins on a car they know they can sell as is anyway. With cars worth <20k profit margins are not huge so don't expect dealers to indulge you when they are shifting stock worth much more. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Any good dealer will sort out any issues you have with a car.

For instance when I bought mine at 6K they went out of their way to replace the missing parcel shelf and when the battery failed a couple of weeks after delivery they replaced it on my drive.

So they are not all money grabbing Censored If you dont get good service go elsewhere.

So test drove my first L322 this morning (4.4TDV8). Loved the ride and power, and makes me want one even more.
Sadly the particular car wasn't for me. A bit tatty, tailgate doesn't open, and towards the end of the visit was told its had significant DPF issues, resulting in a new engine!

So I wasn't keen, and it was overpriced compared to others I have seen.

But Defo getting an L322.....................some day soon I hope.....
