I have a chirp from the engine bay when cold, and usually disappears when warned up.

Mine’s chirpy when cold even though I had all the belts, tensioners and idlers replaced last year. Noise comes from the belt where it goes over the alternator ( place of max belt load) and think the belt has become oil contaminated at some point and lost it’s grip. Tried brake cleaner and belt dressing which fixes it instantly but the noise returns at next cold start. Going to have to get a new belt I reckon as it’s a very irritating noise and turns heads. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Spray some water on the belt and if the noise goes away it's the belt and not an imminent problem. If the noise persists then it could be a bearing which you need to sort ASAP as it can fail and it will take out the belt. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

mine (2012 4.4TDV8) chirps when cold - most years it goes away in spring but this year it still happens a bit, especially on cooler days. I have had the belt tensioner mod done too. 2012 L322 4.4 TDV8 AB low mileage - a peach

Cheers JayGee. I’ll give that a go and will prioritise accordingly. |

I wasn't aware of a 'mod' either and thought it was just replace when it's worn or belt is running off the edge. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |
