Cold mornings
Hi
Lately we have had some really cold mornings (Australia)
Around -0c,
When I start the car, it starts as normal, but stops immediately
It dose this two or three times before it continues to run and then it runs verry rough
After its warm it runs fine
Any ideas where I should start looking

WOW, i thought this would be the place to find someone who had had similar problems with cold starting RR 2005 4.4 petrol

Before starting the car, turn ignition on for 10 seconds then off. Try this two or three times then start the car... See what that does sir?

I've never experienced any problem with cold starting our 3.6TDv8 at upto -10C (140,000 miles)
The glow plugs should do the job if given at least 10s as suggested by Craig.
It's best to wait until Glow Plug warning light goes out & then turn the key further to start the car.
It might take even longer than 10s at very low temps & is quite short at what are probably more typical Aus temps.

If still not starting well, might be worth checking the glow plugs Paul,

i didnt think it had any heaters ?? RR 2005 4.4 petrol

Should have paid attention and noticed your signature !
Petrol engines I think only rely on the temperature sensors to tell the engine ecu to inject more fuel.
If you've got diagnostics, it's probably worth checking what the temperature sensor readings are when you're doing a cold start.
A friends cold start issues were all down to a failed temp sensor. The engine ecu then assumes a default value which is probably well above zero. Paul,

Spark plugs been changed and measured properly recently?

I had a similar thing with my m62 engine. Mine turned out too be the rocker cover gaskets had failed and let oil into the spark plug chamber so made it slightly harder too start over the winter as the plugs had become slightly damp

My point was to check if the fuel pump was week and loosing pressure overnight… 👍
