Roof bars now dealer fit?

When I ordered the car many moons ago I checked the roof bar fitting and at the time noted instructions on fitting the base plates and advice to chase the threads on the car mounting points with a tap.

It seems something changed and now you need the fitting pack separately to the roof bars and it’s dealer fit. The new roof bar instructions specifically state the car must be prepared for the bars by the dealer.

Seems a little pants and if I had known I would have had it sorted at PDI, cant wait to see what the quote to do this! 8 bolts torqued up is all that’s needed. MY23 PHEV HSE

That is some of the worst B/S I have ever read, I have this mental image of one of the white coat wonder techs holding a thread tap and asking his mate 'What the F*** is this ? Apologies to the good techs, but this beggars belief Shocked

I had to tap mine out when fitting the Powerful UK set recently (admittedly this was as much due to the bolts they supplied being made out of toffee Evil or Very Mad ) - I also tent to tap out most coated metal things for assembly as it's generally not done after painting/powder coating etc so it's a habit for me.

I guess it's becoming more and more rare for Land Rover product owners to own a tap and die set these days Laughing So they have possibly felt it unachievable to expect an average punter to do it. FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

I’m awaiting more info from the dealer. The fitting pack is no longer included with the bars it’s available to order though but as dealer fit. I found it available on LR parts though.

I do tend to clean threads with a tap as parf of course so quite happy to do it myself. MY23 PHEV HSE

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Zermatt Silver

What a joke!

Purchased some roof bars for my BMW 7 series two years ago and they came with a tap and one page leaflet explaining what to do - it took all of 30 seconds per mounting point.... 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Update

It’s took nearly two months to get sorted but I finally have roof bars fitted !

If you need them make sure you get hold of the fitting plate kit which is separate. Bolts have been painted with the body at the factory so when removed to mount the plates bare metal is revealed requiring corrosion protection adding (zinc primer and sealant Rolling Eyes ) hence it’s dealer fit to maintain corrosion warranty. They just need to sort out the process at the factory to paint the car before the bolts go in to avoid this.

The bars are usual JLR affair but rather high, wind noise seems minimal though.
