stratstone jlr durham - Oil Overfill!

Just had my TDV6 serviced at the local Stratstone, (previously used a well-recommended local indy, but this time they were £100 MORE than the MD for full all-filters and oil service).
Invoice said “Oil supplied 6.5L” but handbook says system capacity is 6.0L, so when I cautiously checked the level cold next morning, surprise, surprise, the readout said “overfilled, check manual”.
Quick call to S/S and they said bring it straight in for us to check, under an hour later, 0.5L drained off and all is well hopefully, fortunately it had only been driven 2 miles home quite sedately in slow traffic.
BUT, the shocking thing is the mechanic who delivered it to the front of the building, when asked “could it have done any harm?” replied: .” Oh no, 0.5L is nothing, even 1 or 2 or 3 litres is OK, it just stays in the sump” Shocked Shocked Shocked
FFS!! (Full Fats Sake, ahem! ) do they train their staff at all?
Obviously, this guy had no clue how a crankshaft can foam up any oil it comes into contact with, and the resultant foam being then a much less effective lubricant, and also delivered at much lower pressure.
I wish I’d paid £100 more for the indy now, what else did they forget? Ah, yes! Tyres all checked diligently for pressures and tread: pressures all OCD correct and 7mm all round, and spare marked up “S/saver” on the checksheet, great. If they had even opened the boot, they would have found it’s a full sized spare with a brand new tyre as it happens, but could have been a baldy remould for all they knew.
NOT IMPRESSED. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Don't use dealers in any shape or form. You won't be the last to get the experience. Now imagine the owner who is not a car person or mechanically minded. They'd be having that feel good factor that it was in the swanky dealership and the potential damage they may have started and the owner is oblivious. visiting from www.rrsport.co.uk

Not as bad, but mine went in this week for its service. Booked 5 months in advance, with a courtesy car.

They called 2 days before, oh sorry we don’t have a car for you anymore Censored then they called with the usual list of stuff to authorise some air con cleaner, brake pads (75% worn). Finally they called my other half to say it was ready and casually dropped in that the fuel filters were on back order so hadn’t done that part of the service Censored

MD’s are the worst, it pains me I hand over so much money for such awful service. It’s been for 4 years and I’m yet to have one that hasn’t ended in an argument or disappointment. Usually them trying it on in some form or another. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I'd write to the dealer principal and ask for a full refund.
I'd also be flagging to the DP that I'd be writing a review on the socials and tag the dealership 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
New Defender D300 90 on order so "Rory" will be going to a new home....!

I found when i spoke to the Mechanic who serviced mine that he really did have no idea what he was talking about. I got worried when i got the video during service where he went on for 5 minutes about how my keyless entry did not work( I disabled it) Oil leak on my level sensor, ok has it had the modification , they dont know or care.


Difficult I know as some of these main dealers are now less expensive than the Indies. overfinch modified

Don’t know who you used previously, but the A690 service centre has most of the good ex stratstone techs i think, and the service manager!

@Notyalc: The A690 Service Centre at Houghton is owned and operated by Stratstone/Pendragon, or do you mean elsewhere along the A690?

I've been in the habit of using Les Potts, but they quoted £100-150 more for the same service. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Sort of plays on your mind a little, I always do my own oil changes in-between the yearly at the local Landrover Indie, and I only use him just to conform to the yearly Warranty requirement. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue
